Did you take this machine apart? If so, then the lever that extends from the thread tension wheel is to the right of the raised presser foot switch plate (inside the sewing machine), keeping the switch from being unpressed.

Take the machine apart again, raise the presser foot, and put the machine back together. This will ensure proper alignment of the plates.

I'm guessing it is because the tension is not just right, the bobbin might not be the right size, the thread type top and Botton might not be the same, or you just might need put in a new needle the right size.

Other than your machine being out of time and needing service, following are suggestions to try:

Be sure to use the correct type of needle for the thread and fabric you are sewing, ie sharp, top-stitch, embroidery, universal, or microtex for woven fabrics and ball-point needle for fine knits.

AVOID old or bargain bin thread.

Remove the top thread from the machine.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread from the beginning.
Check that the bobbin is turning the correct direction in the bobbin case and the bobbin case is properly threaded.
Set the top tension to the midway point.
Re-test your machine and tweak the top tension so the top and bobbin threads meet in the middle of the fabric.

If the thread continues to hang up, take your machine for service and adjustment.

No matter the age of your machine, contact the manufacturer they are very helpful.

timing is a critical part on an electronic machine and best left to the professional fixers , sad to say

Basic Tips for All
  1. Always turn the handwheel TOWARDS you (counter clockwise) as turning it in the opposite direction (away from you, clockwise) may knock the timing out requiring repair from a service center.
  2. Always be sure your presser foot is in the DOWN position before sewing. Sewing with the presser foot in the up position will cause your thread to tangle and your bobbin to jam.
  3. Change needles regularly (after 16 hours of use) as dull/weak needles can cause damage to your machine and fabric. Only use SINGER needles on your SINGER sewing machine.
  4. Always be sure you are using the correct bobbin for your machine. Class 66, Class 15 and Class 15J bobbins look very similar. However, using the incorrect bobbin class in your machine can cause damage.

Have you got a manual?
If not one is available free to download from the Brother site.
Look on page 64 of the PDF file for the error codes.
E2 means:

Problem: A stitch other than the buttonhole or bar tack stitch was selected and the foot controller was pressed (or the start/stop button was pressed if the foot controller is not connected) while the buttonhole lever is lowered.

Solution: Raise the buttonhole lever
before continuing the operation.
Hope this helps!

if needle or arm is not moving ensure bobbin reload is switched off as this often disconnects main function.

hope this was useful.

In the back of your manual, there is an explanation of each error message and perhaps a way to fix it.

Sounds like something's keeping the foot from moving freely. See: -- the aborted buttonhole to the left of the second photo was caused by the foot hitting the slightly raised lid of the accessory box. Ooops. Fix was to take off the accessory box.

Thread sounds too heavy for this machine, or at least these needles. Thread should occupy about 40% of the side to side width of the needle's eye. See:

Theres usually at least one screw in side cover of most machines which has to be removed to access the bulb. My serger & sewing machine both do & ive owned several. Newer ones may be different but there has to be an access .hope this helps

Brother CS-6000 | Answered on Mar 20, 2014 | 38 views

I've had that problem before, you can use a piece of tape to cover the take up lever or use a pair of wire pliers to close the take up lever just a little bit, so the thread will not come out.

If the stitch is loose you need to adjust the tension, if the stitches are preset you cannot adjust them but you should have various sizes on the machine if electronic

take the machine back and get another one.

If your thread is not tangled .The E6 will come up also if the top thread is not threaded properly. Is your thread breaking at all ?

With the foot pedal disconnected from the machine, push the button with the - and upward arrow. to stop sewing use the same button. It is the first button closest to the needle.
