On my bernina 1008 the selection lever is all the way up but I want it on the straight stitch but won't move.

Are you able to remove the top cover of your 1008? The 930 has a "lid" that can be removed to access the internal mechanism. Am suspecting that perhaps the selector has seized from old oil solidifying. If able to open machine, apply 1-2 drops of liquid Tri-Flow Synthetic Lube to every place where metal rubs against metal. Do NOT oil belt or nylon gears! Be sure to move the selector dials and levers and oil those moving parts too. To help speed things up, direct hot air from a handheld hairdryer into the internal mechanics. ...

How to raise the feed dog to grab the fabric better

Most Berninas have adjustable presser foot pressure. The new machines are pretty obvious as Bernina has added dials that do that. The older machines, you have to look for a screw above the needle bar that will loosen or tighten the pressure. There is usually a long spring associated with it. This is a picture of a 930 oiling diagram. But, if you look at the arrow second red arrow from the left (top picture), points to the adjustment screw on the 930. You might find something similar for your machine. ... raise-feed-dog-grab-fabric-better-cypueilwvcr1iimjf32uvlkz-1-0.png

What is the setting for regular straight stitching?

Stitch length @ 2.5mm (between 2 and 3 on the scale). Stitch width @ zero. Top selector lever @ 1 / 2 or (1 slash 2). Needle position @ center. That's it, no rocket science here. Stitch length will vary per application and per user choice. The 2.5 setting is only a suggested default.

Could mis aligned feed dogs cause the machine to slow down as you sew? My machine slows down as I'm sewing.

This can be a problem and can be detected by simply removing the open arm cover and run the machine again to see if the machine runs free. Occasionally, the feed dog is misaligned but generally not by itself. The problem will generally be from an applied force where the open arm cover has been removed as in careless cleaning, some sort of repair attempt, or the actual removal of, and failure to align the feed dog properly. The feed dog can be aligned parallel with equidistance spacing between the outside feed dog bars and the slots in the needle plate. Further adjustments can also be made to the lateral spacing on the X axis as well as the position of the center bar on the Y axis, but I won't go there this time around.

How do i remove the needle clamp assembly from bernina 1090?

Remove the needle bar clamp screw. From the back side of the needle clamp holder, remove the small needle stop screw. The clamp can then be slid down off the end of the needle bar. You may have to swivel the clamp back and forth as you slide it down in order to remove it. Some clamps are fairly tight.

Bernina feed dog down and will not return to normal position by switch

1. Clean and lubricate entire machine following the MANUAL instructions. 2. Try to "lower" it again then try to raise it - several times. If this does not solve it, see a service person.

Needle assembly suddenly got out of alignment side to side

"Side to side"needle position as described, if I interpret you correctly, would be called lateral needle position at the widest stitch width setting. It would be highly unusual for this lateral needle position to come out of adjustment. However, If you are describing the needle not being centered in the needle plate "front to back of the stitch slot, or favoring either the front or back of the stitch slot, an adjustment can be easily made using the following steps: 1. Locate the black 7mm hex head screw that affixes the head-frame at its base. This screw is located directly behind the presser bar. This screw fastens a small sheet metal angle that holds the head frame in its "front to back" location. 2. Loosen the screw. 3. With the needle lifted out of the stitch plate, gently push the head frame in the desired position so as to position the needle center in the stitch slot. (you will find some resistance here so a little more pressure may be needed). 4. Retighten the hex screw and voila'. I hope that this was your problem. SewTechnical Home

Bernina nova foot pressure

The presser foot pressure is not adjustable on the 900 Nova and is not necessary with any Bernina models from the 117L through the 1630 series. If the presser foot bar is sticking so that it is sluggish to respond to the needle plate, the presser bar and bushings will need to be cleaned of oil varnishes in order to function properly. (99.9% of the problem) The other potential problem although unusual, is that the machine frame has been damaged from a drop or impact, causing the presser bar frame bearings to be out of alignment, hence a sticking shaft condition. You do not want to attempt to correct this as you will likely ruin the machine. Suggest contacting a specialist

Bernina nova

Usually the Niva is a model 900 or a Model 1008 is not a nova? If a model 900 there is a small hole in the bottom of machine that a small screwdriver can be inserted to rotate the speed regulator I have often had to remove entire electronic board and send it in to BERNINA to have the electronics rebuilt. With The Bernina 1008 the least expensive way to cure the problem is to purchase a newer style foot control and cord. In Canada about $99

Bernina 1008 thread bunching on bottom

"Nesting or Rat's Nesting" on the bottom side of Bernina sewing machines (CB hook type) is generally the result of very loose top tension. If the problem is found in newer sewing machines such as machines made after 1986 (serial numbers beginning with 26xx xxxx), may have an older Bernina bobbin case in the machine. The problem with the older bobbin cases is that the rounded projection of the latch on the left side of the casing will catch thread, preventing easy thread escapement during the take-up lever cycling resulting in loops on the bottom side and or thread breakage, etc.. Note:....Timings and modified latch geometry's were applied to later models to allow for good thread escapement. Older Bernina cases cannot be used on newer machines but newer cases can be used on all CB hook Bernina machines. Additionally, Chinese copies of the Bernina/Cerliani OEM bobbin are rampant and can cause sewing issues. Always ask for OEM Bernina cases. Note the following trouble shooting logic: 1. The center tension disk that is visible through the thread slot in the top cover of most machines must be positioned exactly in the middle of the top cover slot. By loosening the fixing screws on the top tension mechanism, one can adjust the disk position to center. 2. It would be a very rare situation for the top tension to change whatsoever from the (red center marking) factory setting. The most likely cause of loose top tension under the normal center mark position, would be accumulated lint, thread, or a sticky substance between the disks. This would prevent the tension compression disks from applying an even tension on the sewing yarn (thread). Often this can be blown out with compressed air when the presser foot lever is lifted in the up position. In some cases, soft drinks and other sticky or corrosive liquids can find their way between the disks. In this case, the tension assembly must be removed, disassembled, and the disks cleaned and polished. 3. Check the facial surfaces of the bobbin case for corrosion, and sticky substances that prevents the thread from easily sliding over the bobbin case. 4. Check that the spindle of the hook body is not bent or warped, causing the bobbin case to wobble, thus creating an intermittent pressure on the hook race cover at the moment that the thread is trying to escape over the bobbin case finger. (Replace the hook body) 5. Inspect the undercut on the hook body spindle for thread wrappings and knots. This condition can cause the bobbin case to press hard against the hook race cover, hence hindered thread escapement . 6. Exceedingly tight bottom tension can cause some problems as well. ( If you don't know how to adjust Bernina bobbin cases to factory settings, please ask). 7. Hook timing, (loop lift) can be out enough to affect thread escapement. This is typical of newer machines made after 1986 since Bernina no longer made fixed timed machines like the earlier Swiss made models. The later made models have timing components that can slip under stressed machine mechanics. SewTechnical Home ">
