How to thread with double needle

You'll need to use two separate spools of thread. Machines that take a twin needle will usually have separated thread guides and two separate tension disks. Just make sure the threads are not twisted when threading. Might be better to thread one all the way through and then thread the second. How To Use Twin Needles Be sure to check the width of your stitch when using a twin needle. Because the needles will be wider than a single needle, it is very easy to hit the needle plate if setting it too wide. ...

I replaced cutter blade on Elna PRO DC 5. New blade won't cut fabric. how do I adjust it?

All sergers have 2 blades. Just like scissors. Only 1 blade of scissor is sharp = not good cutting.

I have an older Elna sewing machine, 115V, 1 amp and can't find a model type on it. But I need a users manual. Where do I get one?

Unfortunately, I think you'll need to figure out the model type somehow. I'd try a google image search for Elna sewing machines and try to find one that matches yours. Hopefully that image will have the model. That's what I had to do with my Husqvarna. Several of these machines at the link have images if you click on each one. Good luck. http://www.sewusa.com/Sewing_Machine_Manuals/Elna_Sewing_Machines.htm

I have no manual

There are several websites where manuals can be found:

http://www.tias.com/stores/relics/ has authorised reproductions of many Elna manuals for sale but not yours.

www.diplodocs.com is a free souce but no 1010 there.

www.sewingpartsonline.com is a great site too, and they have yours for sale $US15
link is
http://www.sewingpartsonline.com/instruction-manual-elna-1010.aspx

I don't know this model real well, but I'm guessing it is a front loading bobbin and bobbin case design maybe?? If so, you may well find that just looking at the instructions for any front loading bobbin machine will get you started,
try this link
http://www.sewusa.com/Threading_Diagrams/Threading_Pages/Elna_Sewing_machine_threading/Elna_225_threading_diagram.htm
These Elnitas 225, 244, 245 were front loading bobbin style but "made under licence" and sold by Elna. I think the 1010 may well be a similar design so see if these diagrams help get you under way.

Its always helpful to source the genuine manual if possible though so worth spending the money; manuals contain maintenance info as well as threading up, and different techniques and accessories usually.

Lastly, Blanket stitch. I presume you mean the big chunky stitch where you turn an edge over and it looks like a straight line with a diagonal stitch going to the folded edge at regular intervals like this.
tally_girl_77.jpg Some sewing machines do a similar "overcasting" stitch but it won't be big like you might want on polar fleece or a blanket edge. The commercial blanket stitch you see on blankets will be done by a special purpose industrial machine and it applies a single thread just as you would when doing a blanket stitch by hand. So look at the stitch selection dial on your machine and see if there is something resembling a blanket stitch but it usually would only be 4mm wide, the maximum your machine probably can stitch.

So if you want a genuine blanket stitch, its a needle and heavy thread hand job, there are instructions on how to do at www.sewing.about.com, link is http://sewing.about.com/od/beginner1/ss/blanketstitch.htm

Bunching bobbin thread elna 1010

Firstly remove the bobbin and case and give the whole area around the bobbin a good brush out, removing all lint and fibres from the area completely, don't blow it inside the machine deeper. Then if it has marked oiling points, give them a drop of clear quality sewing machine oil. Now, check that the bobbin thread is fully into tension spring and that the bobbin is in and rotating the right way in the case. Also check the way the thread is wound onto the bobbin, many users have never been shown the right way to wind and just go flat out. You need the bobbin to be wound smoothly and evenly right across the middle top and bottom and you don't want the thread to be wound on with varying tensions on it or it relaxes unevenly in the seam causing puckers.See my tip on bobbin winding here: http://www.fixya.com/support/r10598580-winding_bobbin_correctlyThen check top tension is set at the mid range number, usually 4 or 5 and that it is also fully seated into the tension discs. Always thread with the pressure foot raised so the discs are open for the thread to seat in.Change the needle, and check stitch length is appropriate for the weight of fabric being sewn, usually 2.5 length is fine. Now test sew again and hopefully the stitching is now more even.

Elna Supermatic 1960's/cream and blue.

There may be threads jammed up in the bobbin holder area causing the jam. But removing the inner bobbin holder is a bit tricky if you haven't done it before. There are two little screws holding the silver inner down onto a black ceramic piece (inner guard ring), and you need to get these lined up the right way to get the bobbin holder back into position afterwards.

I would suggest that you join the Yahoo group Elna Heirlooms, then check out the files and photos loaded up by other members who work on their Elnas.

You shouldn't need to remove the feed dogs, just give them a clean with a little brush. But internally the machine may need a good clean and lube and without a service manual or good guide this can be challenging.

If you go this link http://www.arizonaexpressionz.com/elna_service_manuals.html you can down load the manual for this machine, the Star Series SU. Go to page 7 of the first part to see about removing the bobbin holder and inner guard ring.

It is a case of lining up the cut out of the black plate to the front, then putting the bobbin holder on top with the little arms facing front also, then replacing the two screws.

I'd suggest you take photos with a digital camera before you start to help you get it back in the right way.

I hope this helps you with the Supermatic, did you get the discs and accessories with it too? lovely Swiss quality machine with great stitching so if you can't get it unjammed, you may wish to find an experienced Elna Technician to take a look.

White Sewing Center stock lots of parts for these machines too, www.whitesewingcenter.com
