Necchi 3537 Mechanical Sewing Machine - Page 7 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Doing a google search for the brand plus model number for a user guide or YouTube videos might find what you are looking for. That it is a Necchi doesn't supply the model number and of course models differ. On a 537L model, the large knob on the right side about halfway between the top and bottom of the machine adjusts stitch length. The numbers may range from 0 to 5 with 0 meaning no length and 5 being the largest length. Tension, stitch length and stitch width are all controlled by small dials on the front of the Necchi machine. If your stitch length is set to 0, the sewing machine will not feed the fabric. Incorrect tension will cause poor stitch quality. You must consult you machine's user manual to know how to adjust the tension as the procedure differs among machines. Here is a general guide, however:

This can be caused by certain types of thread. It always pays to get a good brand.

There may be something like a sticky residue between the discs. Remove them completely and clean them with hot water and soap, dry well and refit them.

The most common reason is incorrect threading. Even if you think you know how to thread the machine, it pays ot open the manual and check.

It is skipping stitches.

Use a brand new needle that is a suitable type for the fabric and thread you are sewing. If sewing knit, use a ball-point needle. If sewing woven fabrics, use a sharp needle (ie universal,
Use good quality sewing thread--no old or bargain bin variety.
Be sure to install the needle facing the correct direction. On most machines, the flat side of the needle faces the back of the machine, however, if the bobbin loads on the left side (not from the front), the flat side should face the throat of the machine.
There could also be a burr somewhere that is catching the thread and causing the skipped stitch.
