I have the Pfaff 7530, Quilt and Craft Pro. It is

Hm, this decision is probably too personal for someone else to answer. For what it's worth, there's a 7530 on eBay--bid starting @$650. You'll need to decide if $500 to fix your machine is worthwhile to YOU. How much faith do you have in the repair person? Unfortunately, sometimes, even when machines are repaired, they can still have other parts fail. However, there are repaired machines that will run for another 15 years without any major problems. I'm just assuming (based on the cost), the problem with your machine involves a computer component which is a common issue with computerized machines. Like all computers, there are parts that will fail over time...that's just their nature. For the most part, computers will fail within 5-10 years. However, if they are installing a brand new computer component, it could be like a brand new machine. On the other hand, you know your machine and you know what is wrong with it. Purchasing another used machine leaves you in the dark as far as whether the machine works properly, how it's been treated and serviced, if shipping is involved, will it be packed right and not arrive damaged, etc. Sometimes, just the comfort of knowing that makes your machine worth fixing. If you contemplate replacing your machine, just sit down and make a list of all the options on your machine that you cannot live without. Then set out in search of machines that fill your list of must-haves. The price may help you make your decision.. Finding a new replacement machine could cost a couple thousand dollars. How do you change straight stitch length?

There is a length switch that you must turn carefully. Just monitor the distance of movement on an old rag and make some marks on the switch or dial as you go.

Pfaff free motion sewing

Ok.. first understand that free motion is just that.... there will not be a perfect stitch length... You are the regulator of that as you move the hoop. You'll need to practice. There are some good videos on youtube on this.

Hobbylock 784 keeps locking

There are many causes for this problem like: overheating, presserfoot, bobbin winder e.t.c. First try to lower the presser foot and movebobbin winder shaft back fully to left and lower buttonhole lever also. Now turnpower off and wait about 20 minutes. Safety device will reset, and machine willbe ready to operate. If youfound the problem still exists, then remove the cover of the foot control andcheck if everything looks in place - nothing running around loose in there. If these process not working then you probably need toreplace the presser foot and empty spool. Hope this will help you. Good Luck.

My Pfaff 2048 seems to

Hi :) How did you check the bobbin tension? The thread should come through to the top side. So let's take a check here and see what is going on.

Take the bobbin out. Take a hold of the thread and suspend the bobbin (in the case) underneath it. Still holding on to the thread let it dangle. Does it reel out to the floor or does it drop a bit with some resistance and sort of stop? If it doesn't fall to the floor with thread between it and you then there is some tension to the bobbin.

Proper bobbin tension, when doing the above, dangling the bobbin by the thread, should allow some thread to come out but not reel out. If it drops a lot then there isn't enough tension. Look for the adjustment screw and tighten it until it behaves as it should when testing. Then place the bobbin back in the machine, listen/feel for the 'click' when it's in proper place. By the way do make sure that the thread was wound evenly around the bobbin and that it was doing in the right direction when it's in the bobbin case.

Now let's look at the top thread. Totally unthread the top side and rethread it again making sure it is going through the guides and not catching/looped. After putting it through the upper tension pull on the thread and feel the resistance. Again it should pull through and not break but there should be some resistance. Now thread the needle.

Get some scrap fabric, doubled as if you're sewing a seam. Set the machine to an medium stitch length and a wide zigzag. Sew a few inches and take the material out to exam it.

The top and bottom stitching should look identical. Make sure you remember which is the top side and which is the bottom. Turn the fabric over and examine the bottom side. Do the two sides look the same? Are the stitches neat with the thread going through to the other side at the outside of each zig with no thread from the other side coming towards the middle? If one side is drawn up, puckered than the thread tension of the other side is too tight. And if one side has thread drawn through going towards the middle that opposite side tension is too loose.

Remember to think in opposites. The bottom side of the stitch is effected by the tension on top, ie through the needle. The top side is effected by the bobbin tension. Often people assume that if the underside of the stitch is loopy or loose looking the bobbin is too loose when actually it is the top side that is too loose (or the bobbin tension way too tight).

Try this and see if this will fix your problem ---- or I didn't understand your description correctly...
