Cobra pr 3850wx bought new NiMh 800mAh 1.2v

  • A Cobra 3850wx Radio requires 4x600mAh NiMH 1.2V AAA Part # GA-3ANH rechargeable batteries.
  • Not just any AAA rechargeable battery will charge in the unit.
  • All will work in the radio but not all will charge inside the radio. It has to be a specific battery.
  • This is an example of what you need. GA-3ANH batteries which will charge inside your radio. http://www.tomsawyer2wayradios.com/catalog/item/3823249/5076887.htm

My Cobra micro talk two-way

Check your battery contacts to see if they have a film of dirt or debris. If so, clean them with a pencil eraser. Check to see they are making good alignment with the contacts in the charger. If these suggestions do not solve your issue, you may have a bad solder on a battery contact in the radio. (Be certain the radio is shut off when charging.)

Best regards.

Cxt90 microtalk radio charging

Hi, When charging batteries always do so with the radio switched off, this is a MUST, if you want to prolong your battery life, too many queries on this subject have resulted in burnt out batteries, being recharged with the radio on. This is a very big NO, NO....I hope I have answered your query for you.Cheers,Peter

Charging batteries

the cobras are meant to work with alkaline cells. You bought nicads which are a lower voltage per cell (1.2 to 1.38). Alkalines are about 1.55-1.58

That is why your rechargeables only show a quarter charge, because their terminal voltage is lower and the radio thinks they are not fully-charged.

Microtalks won't charge

I have the Cobra Microtalk 4100 FRS radios with charging base. After changing the batteries with new nimh rechargables the charge light would not illuminate and the unit would not charge. I noticed the original batteries had a metal band around one end. This band makes a small connection inside the battery compartment on the first battery. Seems to be a cheap way to ensure you dont try to recharge the unit with non-rechargable batteries installed. I rapped a small piece of tinfoil around one end of the first battery in the new set then popped it back in and now they will charge correctly again. Dont try this with non-rechargable batteries! I would recomend buying original replacement batteries.

Take to Radio Shack they service radios but will charge labor+parts. If you recently bought them take them back and get new ones with your receipt in hand.
