Why does the dryer take an hour and a half to dry

GE dryers usually have more than one heating element. Your machine probably has one failed heater and one good heater. The dryer will not get hot enough with only one heater working.

Unplug the machine! Check the heaters for continuity with a multimeter and replace if no continuity.

If the heaters are good, a faulty operating thermostat can also cause this symptom. It can turn the heaters off before the machine reaches the normal operating temperature.

Poor air flow can also contribute to slow drying. Check for lint buildup blocking airflow inside the machine and the vent duct.

Need height from floor to dryer vent outlet for

It depends on what floor you are on. If its on a second floor you can put it wherever, but if its on a first floor, its once you vent outside, it needs to be 12 inches from the ground to the top of the vent hood. Check with your local code officials for any codes specific to your municipality.

Dryer will not dry clothes on first cycle. Dryer

There could be a short in the plug, but unless it was yanked on all the time not likely. First I would grab your plug at the outlet and try pulling it and see if it moves out of the outlet easily, you can have loose outlet terminals. If so change out the outlet with a new one. If that's not the issue. Next I would check the wiring connections on your dryer. Lastly I would replace the cord. And if you suspect the cord to have a short in it you can check it for continuity with a meter.

Duet gas dryer drum has peeling paint

We have had Ge dryers for years and they all have had paint peal caused by snaps and zippers hitting it over time there are limit switches that should protect from excess heat and shut the dryer off. For a long time Ge laundry products were not very good quality in my opinion I am told they are better now. Just keep the lint screen clean to help air flow, my opinion is that it is more of a cosmetic problem than a safty one. When you can buy a kenmore or maytag.

The dryer starts without using the start knob when

Assuming that you have GE dryer DBXR463ED0WW,
Sounds like there is a couple of problems there:
  1. The start switch is stuck and needs replacement/repair, part number WE4X881
  2. The clothes taking too long to dry may be due to a) clogged dryer vent; b) one or both heater coils burnt out; part numbers: WE11X10007 for restring coils only or WE11M23 for whole heater assembly c) problem with temperature selector switch, part number WE4M407
  3. There might be a problem with timer (WE4M271), but before replacing it I'd suggest taking care of the long dry problem first. In some models, timers are wired that way so the timer advances only when there is heat, so check the schematic.
There should be a schematic diagram inside the control panel, use it to for diagnosing the problems you described.

Good luck,

Dryer not hot enough

run it for about 30 seconds and open it...is it hot? or is it just warm? some dryers have two elements...one of yours may be burnt. I would first check to see if your dryer vent is clean and not kinked or clogged....There is also a thermal switch located inside the back panel which is fairly easy to change and pretty cheap also....but that wouldn't be a factor if you have heat.... check your venting its more than likely the problem....Good Luck

Dryer has a squel, squek when it is cold but as it

This is probally the idler pulley. But it could be a couple other things.
Your dryer uses nylon or plastic glides at the front of the clothes drum for support. When these are worn, they can be noisy. When that happens, replace them. There is a video at www.appliancehelponline.com/servicemanual.html this will walk you thru the replacement of these parts. It may be a different model but the process will be the same. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model. Your dryer supports the clothes drum in the rear with a center spindle instead of rollers. The spindle is a shaft through a sleeve. When the components are worn, they may squeak, squeal, or rub. You can't repair them. Just replace them when they're worn. There is a video of this also.

Loud squeaking when you first turn on the dryer,

The problem is your bearing is nearing the end of its life. I just had mine apart and put a touch of axle grease on the drum main bearing, I also put a touch of this on the idler roller shaft (avoid getting any on the belt). Do not use petroleum jelly (Vaseline product) as it will turn into a liquid at the temperature the dryer runs at .

Ge dryer. u turn dryer on and all u get is a loud hummin

If the dryer motor only hums when you press the Start button, the motor may be burned out. Here's how to test the dryer motor: Remove the belt. Check for obstructions in the blower fan housing. Manually rotate the shaft of the motor. If the motor is very stiff, or impossible to rotate manually, and the blower fan housing is clear, you need to replace the motor. If the motor rotates freely, run the motor momentarily with the belt removed and the blower in place. If the motor runs fine with the belt removed, there may be a problem with the idler pulley or the clothes drum. Try to rotate the drum by hand. If it is very difficult to move, correct any problem with the rollers or pulley, and then reassemble the dryer and try it again. If the motor hums but doesn't rotate on its own even with the belt removed--yet you can turn it freely by hand--you usually need to replace the motor or the motor start capacitor Joe
