my officejet pro 8500 will go into a sleep mode.

my officejet pro 8500 will go into a sleep mode. When I try to print, it does not work. The only thing that shows that there is power is the on/off button. It will blink, but that is it. If I hold it down, it does nothing. The screen is not lit. The only thing that works is to unplug the power source and plug it back in. I then finally get my print job after it reboots. Is there a way to "wake" the printer?

Here's what HP had to say about mine:
1. Print out a self-test page and check your firmware version.
Compare your version to this web page:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=mp-82657-2&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&os=4063&product=3752456&sw_lang=

If your version is different, upload the new firmware in accordance with the directions provided.

If your version is the same, go to these steps:
1. On your printer, press * and # simultaneously
2. Press 1, 2, and 4, in that order. (This sequence should be the same for yours, too)
3. Select the underware menu (I know, sounds funny)
4. Select the System Menu
5. Select System Mode Time Out (you may have to scroll for a few screens)
6. Set this to 0, press OK
7. Turn Off/On Printer.

I just reset mine this morning and will find out tomorrow whether or not this is the fix, but it seems to be so far.

best of luck!

Does the error read "The Following Printhead has a problem" ? If so, the printer needs to be reset. Read on ...

1. Press the power button on the printer to shut it off. If it will not shut off, pull the plug!

2. Remove the power cord from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.

3. Wait about a minute or so, then reconnect the power cord to the back of the printer. Connect the other end of the power cord to to a wall outlet.

4. Press the power button to turn the printer on.

Does this solve the problem?

HP officejet pro 8500 ink cartridge problem

I just replaced the black HP 940 cartridge with an HP 940XL. The printer keeps telling me to replace the cartridge. The ink gauge says the cartridge is full. I bought a second cartridge and have the same problem. Thank you.

Changing a printer cartridge is not complex but improper handling of the parts may damage the printer and the cartridge. If the user notices that while printing the ink comes out dry or faded, it may be time to change the ink or the toner. The user will know if it is time to change the toner because instead of a sharp image, one will get a faded image. It is time to change the ink cartridge when the printing comes out spotty or colors are used to replace others —for instance, blue for black or yellow for red. Remember, faded images signal the need to change the toner; spotty printing signals the need to change the ink cartridge get more help for change cartridge .
Hope this helps you.

Paper Jam HP OfficeJet 8500

i have a officejet hp 8500 printer that keeps sayig "paper jam" even though I have checked this printer thoroughly? Any suggestions, I think it may have something to do with the motherboard or something similar, thanks for your response!

etechrepair.jpg Constant jam indication. This gear is more than likely the cause after exhausting all other avenues. Also nearly impossible to get to let alone replace even if HP offered the part. There is a black cover over the clutch assy that can be removed to reveal the gear. In most cases the gear is either sitting in the bottom of the machine or split down one side. This is the second machine that I have diagnosed with this problem in a very short time. If you have this broken gear, consider it toast. Matt / E-tech Copier and printer repair.

HP Pro 8500

HP Pro 8500 printer has carriage jam. I have opened every door and there is no paper jam.

Sometimes the paper gets caught inside the printer all the way to the right (or left) of the print carriage. You will miss seeing it because the print carriage has moved the jamed paper to the right (or left) out of view. Carefully and manually move the print carriage to the opposite side and you might find small pieces of jammed paper there.
