check the scanner glass, run your nail over it as you may not see it as they may be a small amount of tipex on the scanner glass

Sometimes the paper gets caught inside the printer all the way to the right (or left) of the print carriage. Have you installed any Printer software for this epson v500 OfficeJet 8500 Printer or just connected it for the first time

clear the fax log...
go to setup menu basic fax setup... scroll to fax log... clear fax log....
in some printer you can find the fax log in the fax settings or advance fax setup..
