I get broken gear in my hp officejet pro 8500a
Someone pulled hard on jammed paper to remove it from the printer. This has broken the small plastic paper advancing gear on the left-hand side of the printer (have seen this mistake a number of times). The printer is broken and cannot be fixed, and it is time to purchase a new one. What you and everyone needs to learn from this is to NEVER pull hard to remove paper out of your printer. Be careful, and open the access doors to get to it. We would suggest that you upgrade to an HP 8600 series printer and if you print more than 500 pages per month you purchase an AdaptiveInk continuous ink supply system (CISS). Paper Jam HP OfficeJet 8500
Constant jam indication. This gear is more than likely the cause after exhausting all other avenues. Also nearly impossible to get to let alone replace even if HP offered the part. There is a black cover over the clutch assy that can be removed to reveal the gear. In most cases the gear is either sitting in the bottom of the machine or split down one side. This is the second machine that I have diagnosed with this problem in a very short time. If you have this broken gear, consider it toast. Matt / E-tech Copier and printer repair.

Inkjet 3 failed
Forget it HP.. has now found a way to recongnize when a cartridge has been jail broken and will not allow the printer to print. The cartridges have circuits imbedded in them so the printer can recognize the originals from the knock offs. Many are outdone at HP, as they are now dictating what product you can use in the printer. That is why the printers are so cheap. They make up for it in ink.
Screen reads paper jam even though there never was
Try cancelling the printer job via the control panel in Windows.
Also open covers, including the top flatbed half, to view the paper path.
There may still be a stray piece stuck in there somewhere.
