To reset the Garmin device, turn off the device by pressing the power button on the top of the device. When the unit is off, press your finger to the bottom right corner of the screen and continue holding while pressing the power button. A prompt will appear on the screen confirming data reset. Click Yes.
If that doesn't work, try a factory reset:

Resetting my Garmin Nuvi 1490
Garmin nuvi 1490T Factory Reset hay i found this for you it may help I had the exact same problem. No response from a Master Reset. I finally tried to put the unit into a stand by mode. Press the top left corner of the display and power the unit on. Keep pressing the top left corner and the "GARMIN" will displayed. Release to power button, then quickly plug the unit into a computer. You should see a green dot in the lower left hand corner of the screen. Release the top left corner and you should see the green bar start to load. When the green bar goes across the screen the unit should show it plugged into the computer and your computer should recognize it. I know it was tempting faith, but I used the WebUpdater (this originally caused my problem), again and this time it worked and everything seems to be fine. You can search the Garmin forums on how to put the unit into the Standby mode. It took me a couple of tries to get the sequence right, but I was pleasantly surprised.
Dampness on my gps
The Gamins are not sealed. You might try putting in a zip lock bag full of uncooked rice and leaving it for a few days. The rice will absorb the moisture that is in your GPS.
Gps need to be updated but don't know how to update it
Depending on the model, you may or may not have free map updates. You will need to connect your GPS to your computer and log into Garmin. You will need to down load Garmin Express from the Garmin web site. Once the software is installed, it will either find your gps, or tell you connect your gps to your computer. After that, just follow the screen prompts.
