If there is problem with an inverter or a back light, the lights will come on for about 2 seconds and then shut off. The Sanyo DP42484 television has a problem with poor quality back lights. I had one that had three bad back lights. I replaced them and it fixed the problem. The TV now comes on and stays on.Replacing the back lights is a very tricky problem. You have to completely disassemble the entire TV to expose the back lights. The hardest part is removing the LCD glass without damaging the very delicate ribbon cables that connect it to the rest of the TV or cracking the glass.You then have to reassemble the television, except without the LCD glass. You can then power up the TV and see which back light are not illuminating.The back lights are 950 mm long and 3.3 mm wide. There are 12 of them. The ends are coated in a silver paint for conductivity. They are held by metal U-shaped sockets at either end. In the middle of the length of the fluorescent tube is a C-shaped plastic support to hold up the center of the long tubes. This plastic is very brittle and breaks easily. Try to slide the tube to the side thru the plastic support. If you try to spread the support wider and pull the tube foreward, the C-shaped plastic support will break.I searched for an exact replacement, but I was not successful. The closed I could get was 950 mm long and 3.0 mm wide with wire ends. I purchased these from http://www.ccflwarehouse.com for $25 each. Part number CC30950. I bent the wire ends back and soldered them to the metal sockets. When the 3 bad lights were replaced the Television came on and stayed on.

Bad panel (screen) hopefully you can get one under warr. otherwise, you are stuck with this. contact sanyo directly and make some noise

May I know if the unit has a good sound. Does the symptoms appear in all inputs like on DVD, cable, game console, etc?

It could be the video processor board (T-connector board) or its ribbon cables. This board has two ribbon cable that supply each of the two circuit boards for the LCD glass. One for the left and one for the right. If one of these cables has become disconnected, then only one half of the screen will work. To check the cables, you must remove the back of the TV. The video processor board is under a metal cover. Remove the 4 screws to expose the board. Check the one input and two output cables to be sure they are properly seated. If one side of the screen remains dark, the problem may be in the video processor board itself. You can probably get one on ebay. Otherwise the problem will be in the LCD glass circuits and it can not be fixed.

Bad LCD panel Tab, you can search youtube for "LCD panel tab". There are quite a few videos that explain whats going on with the panel. The only true fix is to replace the panel which is big $$$

Thats usually caused by the Inverter boards. You can get a replacement inverter from www.tvrepairworld.com

The first thing I would check would be the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. If any of them are swollen or domed on top rather than flat, they will need to be replaced and that will fix your problem. I fix about 75% of them at the shop by replacing caps on power supply. A tech will probably charge around $100 if it is bad caps. It is a fairly easy job.

Mostly likely it's a defective inverter, but do get a diagnoses done on the set. I've worked on several of these model with failed inverters

With the remote and or manualy?If yes. the sound circu needs troubleshooting by a tech.

Replace the Main board if your not hearing any audio from the set.

if the screen is a dull deep blue and you hear audio perfectly its probably the Main board. If the screen is dark but you hear audio perfectly it would be the inverter.
