take off the knobs, unscrew the plastic underneath the knobs, take off the plastic cover. unscrew the four metal screws holding the the display panel on. remove the 5 silver screws across the top inside of the plastic cover front and the 2 black ones on the lower left and right sides. remove the to stainless steal stews on the sides of the stove towards the rear top. these should allow you to remove the cover once you unplug the two cables going into the burners.

Hi,

Just because it glows that does not mean it is not bad...
The ignitor is not working right and is going bad....
have the repair man replace the ignitor, or DIY....

Usually, constant clicking is caused by water getting down under the glass or metal cooktop. Just unplug the unit and let it dry for a day or two.

If your burners are the Calrod type, check if one of those may be shorted. Disconnect them and tape or insulate the wires for a test.

One side of the burners may be hot all the time so don't rely on whether they are turned on or not.

For troubleshooting, a trick is to put a 100 watt lamp in series with each side of the line so that testing can be done without blowing the breaker.

Make sure the little tiny flash holes are open. They allow a little bit of gas to seep out so the igniter can light the burner. If you can light the burners with a match, check those holes.
If yours are the "sealed" type burners, make sure they are not a half a turn out (180° around)

There is usually a switch under the knob thaat controls the electrical sparker. OFTEN these get messed up when the area around the knob is cleaned and water gets behind the knob.

take burner cap off and clean all the gas ports with paper clip etc.it sounds like the gas is not reaching the spark.usually clogged with grease or soap.hope this helps .please rate my answer :)

Hello JBlum, Yes, most stove top elements, including those with the thermo sensors, are replaceable. Without the model number, I can't steer you towards the exact part number, but you can look it up yourself at www.searspartsdirect.com

Just enter in the full model number of your GE range and it will bring up all the line drawings and parts lists for it. You can either order the parts from Sears, or use any other supplier you wish.

Just remember to disconnect the range from the wall outlet before you undertake any repairs or attempt to replace any parts, so you'll be safe.

There is a center brass nut in the middle of the burner under the burner cap. You have to unscrew this and then the burner base will pull off and you can get under the burner.
the electrode is held on by a clip underneath the burner. If you remove the clip then the electrode will pull up through the top.

you need to remove the burners vent-uri nuts ,take the burners off

now after the nuts are removed you need to lift the top and to lift the top you need to check in the row where there are 3 knobs, both the left and right knob area is secured to the base of the unit.unscrew the screws holding the black piece of plastic you see when the knobs are removed, the top will come right off. ------- This will help. Put a sheet of wax paper between the two plates for a few minutes while it heats up, then remove. It will transfer the wax to the grill so you'll temporarily restore the non-stick coating.

How old is the stove? The igniter does sometimes go bad. Also you need to check the igniter wires. The igniter works on a grounding principal so if the wires outside shield are cracked or eaten by mice the spark then travels to the path of least resistance and probably sparks under the top.

If it is not a portable type of cooktop ( meaning: like a toaster or other appliance) then it should be hooked up to a 220 service.

This is most likely caused by a wet or dirty spark gap or flame sensor and will probably be fine if you let the unit dry out for a couple of days. You could, at your own risk, light the pilots or burners with a lighter and let the heat dry out the components. They may have to be cleaned.

if the knobs wont turn, the cooker needs to be serviced by a gas engineer the gas taps are seized they need gas tab grease

white and ground are grounds there should be a ground rial in the fuse box, stove is 220 black and red go to 2 seperate breakers, 25 amps, and 15 amp is for 110 regular outlet
