I have the GE Side by Side model # GSS20IEPH WW and it is leaking water out of the water dispenser in the freezer door. I have shut off the water and the leak has stopped but if you turn the water back on it starts to leak again. It does not leak very fast but it is steady drip. The ice maker works with no problem.
The fill valve that supplies the water may not be shutting off completely. Also check to see that the lever is closing completely.

I saw a red glow at the bottom rear panel of freezer portion of GE side by side refrigerator. It was the sound of the water dripping and hitting the heat coil? that drew my attention..then I saw the red glow and felt the heat. Not knowing anything, I unplugged the refrigerator and removed all contents. Now what? Is this actually part of the auto defrost cycle that I just happened to witness for the first time, or is this an issue? 12 year old GE TPH21PR Profile if I read the number correctly.
This is from the GE Appliance "Knowledge Database" Web site:
Refrigerator - Explanation Of Red Glow
In
a no frost refrigerator, the defrost timer activates defrost heaters in
the evaporator section (rear of freezer) which heat up and melt the
frost off the evaporator coils. This process lasts for approximately
25-45 minutes and usually happens up to twice a day.
During this time, there will be no running sounds, no fan noise, and you may hear water dripping or sizzling as it hits the
heaters. On side by side models, you may even be able to see an orange glow at the bottom of the freezer.
This is normal.

model #GSL25JFPA BS
Refrigerator is not cooling and freezer is not freezing. Also ice maker not making ice. Water does come from the dispenser and I do hear the compressor coming on.
When the compressor is running, both the fan inside the freezer and the fan down by the compressor should be running. If OK, look for frost on the back wall of the freezer, indicating a probable defrost heater failure. If yes, remove back metal cover in freezer, defrost with hair blower, replace defrost heater (the thing at the bottom of the freezer coils with two wires going to it)
If no to these, send me an "ask me" follow up question.

A couple days ago I noticed the ice maker quit and the fridge was a little warm as the soda pop inside was not as cool as usual. Then eventually the freezer while still cool was allowing things inside to thaw and the fridge was now not even cool. Prompted to find out what was wrong I started digging around. I noticed a couple things... The compressor was running all the time and hot and the freezer had ice formed on the outside of the back panel. Took the back panel out and had ice all over the inner coils. Took a hair dryer and defrosted the coils dried it out and plugged it back in. It started making ice again immediately but the fridge side still doesn't seem cool enough yet. Talked to a friend of mine who thinks he is a Mr Fix It and he said the timer is out but I can't find it to check it. So 3 things.... Can you tell me if you think this is the timer.... How do I check it... and where is the timer at on this model... As I look up I noticed that I am on the wrong description... This is a GE side by side TFX22CR.
HI look for this part in the freezer. its the most common one to fail.replace it

The directions are clear on the hard start capacitor concerning wiring it to the compressor and run capacitor. My question is to what do I connect the two black (line) wires. If I don't connect to my thermostat wire, won't the compressor run all the time ? After wiring the capacitor according to the diagram on the package, I have the original neutral wire that went to the compressor relay and the two wires that went to the original compressor relay left. How do I wire in the capacitor ? I am trying to install a Supco URC0810 3n1 start relay per local advice.
I would go back to person who gave that advice because just the right touch on that capacitor and YOU my friend will be in the hospital. If this is helpful, please post as such. TY

GE Refrigerator GSS201EPWW is making a loud winding noise, in the freezer, right under/close to the ice-maker.
This is the fan motor making noise but the fan motor is probably ok. The main board supplies voltage to the motor and can cause it to make strange noises.

The fridge is room temperature, while the freezer is the temperature that the fridge should be! Both are set on 9, which is the coldest setting. This morning, the freezer started to warm up. What should I do?? Please help.

I have a GE side by side refrigerator (not sure of the model…not in front of it right now) that is not working properly. The freezer side keeps frosting up along the back wall and the fridge side is not very cold. I have the temperature settings on 5 for the freezer and 6 for the fridge. When I put them both at a 9 (the coldest setting) the freezer side frosted up very fast and the fridge side did not cool down any. I unplugged the unit and let it defrost and wiped it down, but when I turned it back on there was no change. Also the ice machine is not making any ice. I have looked through the owner’s manual and it is not helpful at all. I am looking for any advice in hopes that I can resolve this issue without having someone come out, as I do not think there is anything major wrong with it.
Sincerely,
C
It sounds like you have a defrost system problem. most commonly its your defrost heater on most GE ref. It can be located by removing the back panel of the freezer. If you remove the heater it can be tested for continuity at any parts distributor. I would also look for the quarter sized thermostat mounted at the top of the coils to see if it looks "popped" at the top. If it is then replace the thermostat. Hope this helps MJ

We noticed that the water was hitting the coal and there was a light
the red light in the back of the freezer is the defrost heater doing its job. the "water is hitting the coal" that's the defrosted ice dripping on the defrost heater. there is no problem if the refrigerator is keeping temperature. do not look for problems if there aren't any :-)
