Screen went black faint images
Hello,
If the screen went black and you can still see faint images of what your computer is currently showing, the typical issue would be a burnt out backlight. For the repair cost, I'd say just invest in a new monitor.
Just to cover the bases, make sure your brightness and contrast settings on the LCD are not set to zero.

Hello ckd. You have picked up a computer virus. Go to any walmart or staples and get antivirus software. If you already have antivirus software loaded and not out of date you should run a full scan. Joe
Thanks for chooosing Fixya!

This might sound silly, but have you tried rebooting?
If YES, then I would suggest you checking out the menu / settings button on the monitor itself.
I had a very similar issue just two days ago. I thought the problem was Windows itself but after some testing quickly realized it was the monitor. Check the monitor menus for an "Auto-Detect" feature, mine was pretty old too but still had it, once I did that it was right as rain.
If that doesn't work please provide me with: Which OS you are using and the exact model of the monitor.
Thanks and best of luck!

This could be multiple things, most likely not the monitor itself, but the computer. Try attaching another monitor to the computer and see if it can turn on... hopefully you have another from some other computer you can use. If not, maybe a friend will let you borrow a monitor to test with? If it does come right back on then you just need a replacement monitor, which are very inexpensive now-a-days. If it does not come on, and still has similar issues, even with another monitor, then your computer has some serious hardware issues and will need some maintenance to get it fixed. But first verify if it is or is not that monitor.

first to be sure thet it is a monitor fault try it in another computer ...if it does the same than try to see what the issue is..Also try to see if any of the menu it shown on it ..if it does than get into its menu and reset settings to factory ..than press the auto ..and try again ..if the monitor shows the menu display ..than it is nothing wrong with it ..but it is either selected the second out on the video card ..or you plugged it in the wrong location on the unit ..see if you have a video card ..and also the on board one ..you might have it plugged into teh on board (vertical one ) instead in the pci video card ..Remember that once the video card installed it disables the on board one ..
Need driver download have new tower and lost CD
Most monitors do not need additional drivers for them to function properly in Windows XP, Vista, and 7. If you are not able to set the monitors native resolution then look at your video card drivers. If these are not up to date, then you can see some very odd default resolutions.
When i plug my computer in to the vga port i get a
That message is usually a sign that the computer is set to a high resolution, and the monitor doesn't support it.
You can go to the Settings and change it to a lower resolution

You need to check on the monitor itself. Most of them will normally mention their ratings etc,,now 12v , 4 amps means 12*4 = 48 watts. So you can use a different adapter as long as it matches the power and voltage and it has the applicable connection.
