It can be bad power pack due to bad caps (bulging/leaking top): http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Bad%20capacitors/?action=view&current=badcaps2.jpg

Or there are shorted circuits in the monitor caused it to draw too much current from the power supply, but I doubt that since the power supply will go into shutdown mode to prtect itself.
I would try another power supply first.

Monitor goes blank randomly - have to turn off

It may have dying power supply due to bad caps with domed top, that will be the first thing to look for since it is very common problem with ALL the LCD monitors.
If you are going to DIY and already try the monitor with another PC, and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on: Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/ Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Sounds like the problem I'm having. Research uncovered a common problem with failed capacitirs on the power supply board. If you look at the tops of the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board and any of them is bulging, you've found the problem. Check out http://lcdalternatives.auctivacommerce.com/Repair-Kit-X2gen-MW22U-DCAC0006-LCD-Monitor-Capacitor-P1799919.aspx for replacement capacitor set.

There are several problems areas that will need to be checked.
1. Are all power cables connected properly? As well as all video cables. 2. Does the computer actually turn on?
If the answers are yes to those. You may have to open up the case of the computer. Double check that all memory modules are connected fully(Make sure the RAM is seated fully in their proper slots). Make sure all video cards are seated properly and that the CPU is installed correctly.
As this is a general trouble shoot for your question, with more information pertaining to your exact computer.... I can be of further help.

Metric M4 or M5, they are about 50cent each at HD or LOWE'S. The length will be determined by the thickness of the plate that the screws will have to go through to go into the thread on the back of the monitor.

The source of the signal is constantly rediscovered because it constantly gets lost - check the cable and how it's fixed in the monitor and the pc. Prepare yourself to spend some money on a new video card.

Monitor seems to be in

It sounds like the actual screen has a problem. Go ahead and turn off the monitor, then unplug the data / vga cable (the other cable besides the power cable) and turn it back on. Do you get a no signal error or anything on screen, or does the light stay amber? If it is still amber this means it is having internal failure, more or less the monitor has died. How old is this monitor? Did you purchase it with a major credit card? If so many credit cards cover electronics such as this for 5 years regardless of the manufacturer's warranty. I know for example that American Express definitely does this, and they would give you a full refund on the monitor if you purchased it with their card. I know it sounds too good to be true but I assure you it is, I've done it a handful of times without issue.

Please let me know what you find, but I would bet the monitor has failed. Luckily you can buy replacements very inexpensively, for example this would be a great replacement:

If you don't need one as large as the one you have now, you could save over $40 by going to a 20 inch such as this one, it is an excellent monitor as well:

Hope this helps, let me know if you have more questions,
