Try several ways.1st Put Usb Keyboard then confirm keys are working are not. if desktop usb keyboard is working its mean Laptop keyboard is disabled from bios or keyboard cable not connected or keyboard damage or may be you have multiple language ( Try Left Shift+Alt).2nd Replace with new keyboard.

Presario CQ60 Repair Manual
From the above link from HP Official Support you can download the service/repair manual for instructions and photos for dis-assembly. Refer to "Fan/heat sink assembly" on page 4-41.
At page 4-7 onwards, you would find the instructions about opening the laptop.
INSTRUCTIONS & PHOTOS
Follow the instructions carefully and remove the Fan/ Heat Sink and Clean it using a tooth Brush.

Straighten a paper clip and insert it into a tiny hole located on the CD drive tray. Push the paper clip gently into this hole and the CD tray will pop out, then pull the tray out to get access to the CD so you can remove the CD.

Make sure the disc is readable. Try to copy the entire disk on another laptop/pc. If the copy runs fine, then it must me something else -- perhaps the HDD.

I would recomend having a pro do this. The Compaq has panels to get to the memory, Hard drive and most replaceable parts but getting to the power plug could be a real pain. One thing you might
try is taking a jewlers screwdriver and VERY GENTLY push up on the bottom contact bending it up
slightly to give it better contact with the power supply but be very careful not to make it worse than it already is. This assumes it uses a power supply with a standard coaxial ac/dc converter type plug.

use magnetic screw driver remove 3 screw from your laptop behind it marked with keyboard logo just pull out from front side of keyboard

In case of your laptop the easiest method would be using software from Hiren's Boot CD as it's pretty hard to open it up and reach for the CMOS battery or the jumper.

How uptodate is your antivirus programme? Sounds like ypou may have one.
Close the pc down by removing the ac adapter and battery.
Fit the ac adapter and re boot. Check for errors by running CHKDSK/F and run your anti virus programme.

Syptoms u have identifies are most probably linked to registry errors on ur computer it is wise to run a registry repair scan with reginout registry cleaner....

are you sure you configured the correct keyboard options when you first loaded and configured the machine if not go back and do this--it should give you full functionality over your keyboard,,if you use the correct type
