It connects to local networks but not the internet

You don't say whether you are trying to connect via an ethernet cable, or via a wireless connection.
Try the following in order: Some of these may seem obvious, but it helps eliminate the more simple problems first: (general guidance, as I'm not sure which windows version you are working with. Did you upgrade from Vista to Win 7?)

Assume you have enabled the network on the laptop FN + number key or physical switch?

  • Check if you have the Ethernet and wireless drivers for this laptop first from the Toshiba support site and install them
  • In Control panel / device manager, see that the network devices for wireless and Ethernet Lan are appearing and have no warning mark next to them. If they have, you need to check what the problem is by clicking on the device shown and following the instructions given (repost your findings if you need more help)
  • See if you can connect to the internet using the ethernet lan connection cable (direct wired connection). If it does this ok, the problem lies with the wireless connection.
  • Assuming the wireless card in the laptop is present and is functioning, the next step is to check the router settings. Using the supplied CD that came with the router, or clicking on the router symbol in control panel / network and open the wireless security settings page, reset the wireless password and make a note of it. Save settings. When setting security, choose 128 bit security for more safety.
  • See if the laptop now picks up the network and when prompted enter the password you just created. If this works you are finished.
  • If it still does not work, try disabling Windows Firewall ( a common problem) and see if that then allows for connection.
  • If it STILL fails to work, try the laptop on a friends network. If it connects then, the problem is with your router. If it does not work, you have a failing wireless card in the laptop.
To confirm this, obtain a USB network dongle and test it on your laptop with your own network. You can get a replacement card off the likes off eBay and this is not difficult to fit.

I restarted my Toshiba satellite

If it won't let you go to safe mode, then there's something that the BIOS(setup) or Boot Manager needs before starting the operating system(Windows Vista). You should have a Toshiba Recovery Disk which will fix this . The disk will not touch any of your current files and data,so don't worry about that.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6905 Laptop and

If you browse www.toshiba.com and download the lates drivers, check the WiFi driver is loaded correctly and if it still doesn't work, replace the little WiFi board. There are often boards for sale on ebay from very little in cost.
Hope that helps.

I bought a Toshiba laptop

The recovery partition has been deleted somehow. You cannot create a recovery cd on that machine.
Sorry.
P.S. That partition isn't hidden...many think it is.
Again...sorry. Hate to be the bearer of bad news.
Good luck
P.S. You might consider using a program like Clonezilla to make a copy of your drive. Or do a fresh install.

Screen is black and can not see the images

hi,
he best way to see if its a bad power inverter board to the back light or if its the backlight "bulbs" is to shine a flashlight on the screen with the computer running.

If you can now see the text on the LCD then its a "back light" problem, the power inverter or the bulbs.

If you can not see any text its not the inverter or bulb. Try hooking your laptop to a external monitor. If the montior works that means your video card is good and that you more than likly have a failed LCD.

replacing the Inverter and entire LCD is normaly a pretty easy task.
  1. Bad inverter
  2. bad backlight
  3. bad connection
  4. all together bad LCD
None of those problems are expensive to repair.

thank you for using fixya, rate my answer,

Missing display drivers

You can go into your control panel and set your own settings for how you want your laptop to react when shutting down and so on.
Driver Detective is a good source to get updated drivers.
If you did a complete reinstall, you should do a long format when reloading, otherwise if you have a virus it may still be on your machine.
If you cant resove your issue, and you think you might have a virus, you can email me and I can walk you through it.l

Is the product key for Microsoft office 2013 the same as all product keys for 2013 Microsoft offices that operate under laptops using windows 8.1?

The product key is associated with the MS Office 2013 software, not the specific MS Windows version of Operating System - unless the MS Office lists a minimum version of OS ie: "Windows 8.0" In this case, it would not install on Windows 7. Otherwise, you should be able to install it on Windows 7, Windows 8, or later.

Japanese Visa Application with COE denied. Why?

How to Get Employment Security With Correct Japan Work Visa Japan is no different from other developing nations whereby grass seems greener on its side of the pasture. It attracts its fair share of foreign businesses as well as nationals seeking to work within its lands. Albeit many adhere to immigration procedures, some choose to test their limits on the basis of ignorance or defiance. By understanding the different types of work visa in Japan, it assures its foreign workers a continual stream of income with no threat of arrest and deportation. Visa simply infers the status of residence. Citizens obviously have no need of it as they automatically satisfy qualifications to freely reside in their country of birth. As for those of alien status who wish to join the local workforce, there should be a category to match one's requirement. Since most countries strive to improve the overall quality of life, professionals are generally welcomed to contribute knowledge and skill. Unskilled labor is normally not granted a visa to avoid flooding and dilution of the workforce. The visa is awarded in accordance to one's area of expertise. Supported with proof of relevant experience, it is based on the field of involvement whilst working in the country. In the event one's work scope changes from one expertise to another, it is essential to apply for a visa under the new circumstances. Different types of work visa in Japan also apply to foreign companies seeking to conduct local business. Domestic companies based abroad wishing to set up a local point of presence need to provide supporting documents to justify internal transfer of foreign workers. Governmental staff for diplomatic duties is assigned a category for legal residence. Over and above the general groupings, designated activities also garner approval from the authorities. Domestic service for non-native residents and citizens of certain nations on working holidays fall into this category of working visa. This, by no means, is the end of the list as it is best to consult the authorities on which visa serves best.Click Here For More Details: http://japanjobandvisaservice.com/blog/change-your-luck-when-apply-work-visa
