The touchpad on my Compaq Presario CQ60 has stopped responding

I had the same problem on my CQ60. HP battery test showed one or more cells not working. After spending about 2 hours talking to some guy in India,or somewhere, he came to the conclusion that my battery was bad. HP sent me a new battery, which fixed the problem.

I will need more information here but it seems that either the battery needs a charge or the power adapter has failed.

what version of windows are you using? state the version and servicepack. in the intrim, start your computer in safe mode and run some programs. shut down the computer and restart in normal mode.

wow, no tests down with battery out.
battery is the #1 failure in all laptop made. and fails many ways.
the firewalls does not source power, forget that.
If fact the HDD removed the power systems work perfectly.

run with no battery, IT MUST, if not the line power pack is TOASTED.
runs with battery only, no, yes? (if charged)
is this hard, no.


try to know batteries can short.
when they short they can overload any charger chip and can the PC.
Batteries are week techology
no battery ever lasts as long as the PC or any of its other parts.
the fail
some can fail in 6 months time.
why wait, run with no battery, heck some do for years.
after learning to hate batteries.

I have 2 and is only for travel every year, i test them before for my trip for proper run times.
only that works, in the world of batteries.

Hi,

The notebook model you have is shipped with the Synaptics touchpad driver. Please follow the below steps to enable scrolling features:

1. Open Control panel -> click on Mouse . It will display Mouse Properties dialog box.
2. Under Mouse properties Window click the Device Settings tab
3. Click on Device Settings -> Settings button. This will display the Properties for Synaptics TouchPad on PS/2 port.

4. Follow the steps below to enable the Tapping Feature :

Highlight Tapping in the Left hand side , and Check the Enable tapping in the Right hand box .

5. Follow the steps below to enable Scroll feature:

Highlight Virtual Scrolling in the Left hand side and Check both the boxes in the right hand side.
6. Click OK .
Alternatively you can anble scrolling by reinstalling touchpad driver.

Some tips:

• Use a "laptop cooling pad",search on Amazon, you will find many of them
• Use the laptop on hard surfaces, not a sofa or bed cover, etc.
• Use compressed air to blow dust out of the fan area (I would do this when the laptop is turned off).
• Check if the laptop is under warranty and have it serviced. Warranty can be from the manufacturer, the store where you bought it. You credit card may have doubled your warranty.
• Install the "core temp" program to monitor your laptop's temperature, and alert you when it gets too high. Then you can learn when it is going to shut down.
• You may be able to run the laptop in a lower power setting, which could reduce the amount of heat generated. This will be under "Power Options" in the Control Panel.
