How to restart the camera

Very easy. Remove the battery. make sure it is charged, before you reinsert it. When the battery is charged, you can reinsert it after a few seconds. This will cause a cold start of the camera. This works with every digital camera. When the camera does not start, recheck the battery (batteries) and the battery housing in the camera, if all contacts are clean and shiny. If the battery is really in good order and charged, the camera must be defect. Then con act the service centre closest to you.

When i want to turn

Unfortunately, restarting the camera rarely corrects a lens error problem. Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

Hi I am turning on

Canon E18 error happens when the lens gets stuck while trying to extend. The camera will beep a few times and the LCD will display a little E18 in the lower-left corner. The lens gets stuck in the extended position, and refuses to move either to focus the lens or to retract when powered off.

The problem usually happens because dirt or sand get into the lens mechanism.

Instructions

If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do is to take it to the nearest official Canon repair shop and Canon should fix it for free.

If your camera is out of warranty, or if Canon refuses to repair it for free (happens sometimes if for example they suspect the camera has not been treated properly) you can try some of the methods listed here to repair it yourself. These simple methods have helped a lot of people fix their cameras.

Before trying any of the suggestions, make sure your Canon has fresh batteries and it is in recording mode.

1) Remove the batteries from the camera, wait for a couple of minutes, then put them back in and turn the camera on.

2) Try compressed air. With a fine tip blow off gun and dry compressed air (20 lbs) set the tip between the lens turret and the camera body and turn on the air while moving the tip around the lens. It should remove all dust and sand. Turn the camera on and it should function fine.

3) Another method is to tap the padded USB cover part on a hard surface, for example, a desk. It sounds so simple, but very often in works.

4) Try forcing the camera lens:

Turn off the camera. Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended.

Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a "click" as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on.

If the lens doesn't extend at all or it extends, and then retracts again, do the following. Turn the camera off. Take the camera in one hand and with the other gently take one part of the lens and gently move it round in a circular movement. Do so with both sections of the lens. You will hear a "click" as it pops back in place. Power the camera on.

Another version of this fix would be to pull and twist on the largest ring of the lens while turning the camera on. Listen for a "click". If at first the focus seems to be off, turn the camera on and off and take lots of pictures, close ups and distance. Focus should slowly start improving.

I'm wondering if I changed

If you haven't intentionally changed the settings you can try restoring it to factory default settings. That should undo any changes you've made and rule out settings as a cause of the problem. I don't have a menu walk-through for this model, but the factory reset is generally in the menu towards the end of the settings.
If that isn't an option here are a few settings you can check that can cause this effect: 1. ISO - This is how sensitive the camera is to light. You probably want it set to a lower number or preferably Auto. If its set at 400 or above it can cause wash out in bright lighting.
2. EV / Exposure Value. You can usually adjust the exposure value in increments of .5 or .33 from -2 to 2. If it is set towards two it can cause over exposure and odd coloring. 0 is generally best for everyday shots.
3. WB / White balance - This lets you set custom or preset colors as the base "white". Make sure its not set to custom and it is set to something appropriate for your environment (auto is best if available).
4. Also make sure the camera isn't set to long exposure or night mode as both of these settings can cause washout.

I cant turn on my camera even if the battery is

The symptoms are those of an internal hardware failure. The camera starts up, indicating that it is powered. Then it shows the splash screen, which says that the LCD is working. Then the camera crashes while doing the initial test, when all part of the camera are powered and checked.

When it fails this way it is usually defective main board. A short in wiring to lens or a shorted lens motor may cause the same thing. Before sending the camera for repair, check the following.

Test using a different battery . You can go to a camera shop and ask testing battery.
If you are using ordinary batteries, ensure that they are Alkaline. Replace with fully charged.

Try starting the camera with no memory card. A shorted SD card may cause the same thing.

Check if the lenses are stuck half the way through.

Remove batteries; point lens to the floor; hold down the on button; reinsert batteries while holding the button; release button (power reset).

If all that does not work, then the camera must be repaired. In that case call manufactured to get a quote on repair. You can get a quote from a third party here:Repair.

Lens error what da problem?

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

I brought a Canon IXY to Abu Dhabi. I bought it

The camera does have a USB port, but the connection at the camera end is a miniature socket. Sounds like you didn't bring the cable with the mini-plug at one end and the full-size USB plug at the other. You may be able to get the right cable where you are, but there are several different sizes of the mini-plug end.

The other, and easier, way to get the pictures is to just take the memory card out of the camera and put it in a card reader attached to the computer, especially now that these readers are built into computers and printers. The card then appears in "My Computer" as a removable drive and you can just drag and drop the pictures onto your laptop. You can't get the pics from the camera's internal memory that way though.

If your laptop doesn't have a card reader, you can pick up an SD card reader in what we in the UK would call a "pound shop", or in Japan a 100 yen shop.

The lens failed to restract...how can i fix

Hi, this is a lens assembly mechanism problem. It is a delicate part of any camera. The lens assembly is composed of several servomotors, coils, some sensors and the actual lens. It does the following jobs:

it extends the lens back and forth

achieves focus by moving the lens

zooms the lens by rotating them in the same time as the whole objective is moved back and forth

Each of these operations is controlled by some servomotors who actually move these parts and are also connected to some sensors that pass the readings back to a main processing unit. When you open the camera this processing unit will check to see if the lens assembly is able to do all of these 3 things. Failure to comply with even one of them will result in the error you see which doesn't mean that the lens itself are damaged, could be the connector to their servomotors, sensor failure, some coils that are out of position and things like that. They are all related to the lens assembly. Because this is a VERY fragile part of any camera I don't suggest you to try a DiY repair because you can damage the lens even further. Even service centers have problems repairing this, most time it is done under a microscope and some times it simply can't be fixed.
This problems occur most of the time in corelation with the camera being dropped or received some shocks but it can happen out from nowhere, just like that.
I would recomand you to go to a service center. Try not the big ones that represent large corporations (because they are expensive), instead look for a smaller one. Tell them you have a lens assembly problem, ask them to make you a diagnostic and then ask for a cost estimate BEFORE they actually repair the camera. If the lens assembly is damaged beyound repair it will need to be changed as a whole, including all connectors, CCD sensor and so on. This could cost from $70 - $200 excluding labor parts that can be about $100. Therefore you should ask them a cost estimate.

If your camera is still in waranty you just need to call one authorised service center to have it fixed for free.

Hi,

You are getting this error due to lens problem.

As simple it mind sound, but hitting this on the palm a couple of times solved the problem. The lens began to retract but continue with the E18 error. Now on continual basis, 5-6 times, while retracting I kept on the heavy palm tapping, and the problem got resolved. Pls try this elementary method first. Worked for me.

Hope this helps.
