unlocking the volume control on 80G Classic ipod

Heres how to unlock the volume control, Don't listen to music to loudly. It will destroy your hearing.

open my computer and then

  1. Enable hidden folders.
Go to "Tools", "Folder Options". Then click on the tab called "View", and under "Hidden Files and Folders", click "Show Hidden Files and Folders". I honestly do not know how to do this on a mac. I'm simply stupid.
  2. Navigate to the hidden folder named "iPod_Control", and once there click on the folder "Device". Once there, delete the file named "_volumelocked".
  3. Eject your iPod. Then, restart your iPod. You can do this by holding down the center and menu button for at least 6 seconds.
  4. Once your iPod has rebooted, check and make sure that it worked. Simply go into "Settings", "Volume Limit". If it asks for a PIN, you did it WRONG. Retry the above procedure.

Hey, I had the same problem and did everything I could think of to fix it (apple store, resetting it, draining the charge). Then I started freaking out because I didn't want to spend the money on a new hard drive or a new iPod. So I did a little searching and found this on another forum:

"Some times when you drop your ipod the lens inside skips. (kinda like a record player) reset your ipod by holding the middle and menu button until you hear clicking. then with one hand hold the ipod firmly and hit the side of it onto the PALM of your other hand. Sometimes this jumps the needle back into place but not all the time."

I did this using the palm method, and it didn't work. But then I hit the side of the ipod on the ground (carpet of course) about two or three times. It made a funny noise and then turned on and started working like before. What a relief. Hope this helps.

You can register it in iTunes when you first plug it in. You won't need to worry about country or anything like that, as the serial number is what Apple uses to determine country of origin for warranty work.

Hi, I just purchased Tunes Tool 2.0 today.  I hoped to use it to transfer songs from my Windows iPod video to my MacBook.  When I installed Tune Tools, the same problem occurred that you all were having;  It could not detect my iPod and gave me a notification about a null iPod.  I figured out how to fix this, and all my songs were able to be transfered onto my mac flawlessly. The steps I used are listed below.
1) Open Tune Tools and iTunes. 2) Plug in your iPod. 3) In iTunes, click the summary tab (if not already selected) 4) On the Summary page, check the box that says "Enable Disk Use" 5) A message will pop up, click OK 6) Open Tune Tools, and Your iPod's library should be there.  If not, you may have to reconnect your iPod. 7) You will have to manually highlight all the songs you want to be transfered from your iPod to your computer. 8) Once all the songs you want have been selected, drag to your iTunes Library in Tune Tools. 9) A blue bar should appear and tell you that your music is being transfered. 10) The songs will be transfered from your iPod to your computer.
I hope this works for all of you!

The iPod Classic OS is same as the Nano. However, it looks to be so close as to come with the same settings checks off. The code to run the FM tuner is on the Classic and should have been disabled but Apple must have forgotten to turn it off.

Hi,

Yes you are correct. You could listen to Radio on iPod classic 120GB.You can listen to radio using the optional iPod Radio Remote accessory for iPod classic.iPod Radio Remote attaches to iPod classic using the Dock connector cable. When you’re using iPod Radio Remote, you see a Radio menu item on the iPod classic main menu.

You can also look at the manual that would have all information. You can View it from :-

http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/iPod_classic_120GB_en.pdf

You need to have Acrobat Reader to view this.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Your iPod's disk is probably badly defragmented. This happens naturally with time; the files which contain your songs and videos are broken up in parts and located in various parts of the disk. Your iPod needs to search all over your disk to get file information, taking longer than it would if your files each were made up of one part.

To defragment your iPod's disk, do the following:

1) Make sure all your iPod's music and videos are also on your computer, and in iTunes.

2) Connect your iPod to your computer, and run iTunes.

3) Click on your iPod on the left side of iTunes, then click on the "Restore" button in the middle of iTunes.

4) Wait for your iPod to finish restoring, then click on the "Sync" button to copy all your songs and videos back to your iPod.
