Try a code search method. If the remote have codes for your TV, you will won. It is a time taking procedure. Check it. Here the procedure is.
Code Search
If after trying "Direct Code Entry" your device does not respond, or if your brand is not listed, try doing a search of the code library for your code by following these steps.
  1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.
  2. Press and hold the SETUP button until the red indicator stays on, then release the SETUP button.
  3. Press and release the desired Mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks once, then stays on.
  4. Press the CHANNEL UP button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device to be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit.
  5. Press and release MUTE to install the code. The indicator light goes off.
Most users will want to store VCR codes under the VCR button, Cable codes under CBL, etc. If you want to store a VCR code under CBL, etc., first follow the procedure for Direct Code Entry and press CBL in step 2 of Direct Code Entry, then enter ANY VCR code in step 3 of Direct Code Entry. Then follow the steps above for Code Search.

  1. Press and hold the SETUP until the LED indicator lights steadily. Release Setup button.
  2. Press the mode button that matches the equipment you want to identify. The LED blinks once.
  3. Press and release SETUP. The LED blinks once.
  4. To find the first digit, press each number button from 0 to 9 until the LED blinks. The number you pressed is the first digit of the code.
  5. Press each number button from 0 to 9 again as above to find the second digit.
  6. Press each number button from 0 to 9 again as above to find the third digit.
  7. Press each number button in turn to find the fourth digit. When the fourth digit has been found, the LED goes out

If you had to play with the cord to switch the system ON, then most likely the problem is with the cord or somewhere near the place where the cord is connected on the board.
As for the switch, when you switch it ON does feel like before or is there a change. if there is a change then it could be the switch.

This TV is not Wall Mountable as the Control Box protrudes and is therefore not suitable for a VESA Wall Mount.

Sounds like a definite power supply issue, once the capacitors on the power board go bad, you will sometimes be able to turn it on still, but eventually it will die completely. If you open the TV, there is likely a bulging capacitor on the power supply. Even if not a obvious capacitor problem, the Power board is likely the culprit.

Can buy new one on many websites including shopjimmy.com, or used on ebay.
shopjimmy will give you a list of the compatible parts as well as all the different tvs the board you need can be found in, to give you more options on where to find the part you need.
make sure you buy based on the part # listed on the board, and not by the model number of your TV, as there are usually many sub-models that all have different interior parts, and most are not compatible with each other.

Check at the website linked below and you may find a 'universal' remote (none of them truly are or even can be) that has codes sets available for your Soyo and the new receiver.
Never buy an 'all-in-one' 'universal remote' without checking the mfr.'s website to ensure that the model you have your eye on will serve for both. Remotes with a design age older than the devices you wish to control will end up in the drawer.
An additional tip; when you want help for two or more devices, always include all makes and model numbers.

LCD panel is the most expensive part of the whole TV, you will be better off selling parts on EBAY and use the money for a new TV.
