I've found a solution that temporarily worked. Reset the settings, workspace and preferences in illustrator to the defaults. This worked for a few saves but then the Unknown Error returned. we did not do this as we are not adobe ! Are you referring to the very known problem of the non existent adobe activation server for your program that prevents you re-installing your software ?
