Unable to install Norton internet security 2009

Do you use firefox?
firefox usually has problems with norton.This kind of problem is usually down to your firewall.See [http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Cannot+connect+after+upgrading+Firefox|Cannot connect after upgrading Firefox}
You need the Symantec hotfix which is necessary after Firefox upgraded to 3.5.1

Norton Intenet Security 2009 after installation issue "Sec Risk"

It may be a false positive. Sometimes a system file gets tagged as a risk, which upon removal by norton, is automatically re-created by "windows system file protection".

Get as much details about the risk, such as file name, google it and if safe, add to norton's exclusion list.

After the inalization scan is done norton tells me

Hi there.

This is a common problem that I have found with installing Norton products. Did your system have a 90 day trial program? Even if you havre never used it, it will still be detected. Also, a normal deletion of Norton, either manually or via Add/Remove, does not completely remove Norton products.

Using this link:
http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
download the Norton Removal Tool and follow the instructions. This will completely remove the Norton product from your system.

Restart your system and try again.

Let me know if it works

Norton Internet Security 2009 Causes Blue Screen of Death.

Hi there
Thats Norton for you! this is a very heavy and memory hungry program, it takes control of your computer and if you have not got enough system or virtual memory it will cause the pc all kinds of problems. To fix this either upgrade the system memory or don't use Norton, use AVG free instead, its a lighter program and lets you have some speed back over the internet.

good luck and thanks for using Fixya!!

Installed Norton Personal Firewall and now can't access the Net

1 Start Norton Internet Security.

2
In the Internet pane, click Settings.

3
Under Smart Firewall, click Configure next to Program Control.

4
On the Program Rules window, in the Program column, scroll through the list until you find the executable file for the program that you are unable to use.
For example, if you are unable to use Yahoo! Messenger, scroll through the list until you find the entry for Yahoo! Messenger. The rule for Yahoo! Messenger will be listed like:
Yahoo! Messenger
C:\Program Files\Yahoo!\Messenger\YahooMessenger.exe

5
Do one of the following:

  • If you find the entry for the executable file of the program, change the Access to Allow and go to line 15.
  • If you are unable to find the entry for the executable file, click Add and go to line 6.

6
Select the executable file that you need to configure and click Open.

7
Click Manually configure Internet access (Recommended) from the drop-down list and then click OK.

8
Click Allow or Block or Monitor depending on the rule that you want to create, and then click Next.

9
Specify the direction of traffic that you want to apply to this rule, and then click Next.

10
Specify what computer or computers are affected by this rule.

  • If you choose the default setting of "Any computer," click Next.
  • If you want to limit this rule to specific computers, select the "Only computers and sites listed below" option, click Add, and enter the information for the method that you chose (IP address, IP address range, or network address). Click OK, and then click Next.

11
Specify what protocol and ports to apply this rule to. Select the protocol that you want from the list.

  • To apply this rule to all ports (default option), select "All types of communication (all ports, local and remote)," and click Next.
  • To select specific ports to apply this rule to, select "Only the types of communication or ports listed below," click Add, and select the method by which you wish to specify your port or port list. Enter the port or port list for the method that you chose. Follow the on-screen prompts for proper formatting of your lists. Specify whether the ports entered in the prior step are local or remote by selecting the appropriate check box under Locality. Click OK and then click Next.

12
Click Next.

13
Specify a text description for this rule, and then click Next.

14
Review the information about the rule. If it is correct click Finish, and then click OK.
If it is incorrect, use the Back button to go back to a previous step and make changes.

15
Click OK.

16
Click OK.

17
Try to use the program.

Norton software won't allow me to reach the internet

Are you logged in as an administrative user on the machine? If so, when you open up NIS2009, you should see three groups of controls. The middle group for Internet should have the a link for Settings next to it. Click on that. Enable the option for Automatic Program Control (might be on an Advanced Settings tab). This will let the firewall configure itself when a new program is run instead of asking the user. It normally gets the settings right. In the Program Control tab, select the programs that it is blocking that you want to allow and change the Access setting from Block to Allow or Auto.
