I guess from the manaufacturer or retailers point of view, fixing it yourself would void the warranty as there isn't much you can do without dismantling it more than is necessary to fit batteries.

The mode is changed on these type of flishlights by momenatry pressing of the switch while it is on. try it i am sure it will work.
