based on the price of a new one and no repair parts available, personally I would throw it away and mark it it up as lesson learned.

If you have the time allied electronics has extensive electronic parts or if you have a local electronics shop. Many years had an old Eureka Canister switch failed and I found a toggle switch that fit perfectly . It lasted another 7 years.

Possibly a blockage in the brush assembly.

I am not sure about your "Boss", but a lot of vacuums have thermal cut-off switches built into the circuit so if the machine overheats from things like clogged filters/hoses the switch kicks in and kills power. You usually can NOT reset it manually ... you just have to wait until the machine cools down.

That sounds like a design feature and it the same as my Dyson. It stops you leaving it in one place with the brush turning. Google Eureka (model) Manual (or Review)

Check belt

Well documented issue, overheating, melted cheap wiring, cheap burned out switches made in China, a Dyson, it is not! Had exactly the same problem with my upright Eureka Model 5893 bagless. Eventually, the handle would get hot, and finally it just quit. When handle was disassembled, the wires were melted and it was toast. Ordered a switch after talking to several repair men. Talked to Eureka, too, and they were absolutely no help. Cheap wiring and switch made in China. Good luck trying to find a switch. vacuum-depot.com has switches, so you might try there, but make sure you get the 3-prong switch (same switch used on Eureka's Genesis). It is Part #27871. Check for a reset switch.

There should be four screws on the bottom that will allow you to take the hood off for cleaning. If the hood doesn't lift up check for other hidden screws. Sometimes they will hide them under wheels.

If the problem is the brushes aren't turning the belt might not have proper tension.
