The float is usually the culprit if it is not turning on. I f you have a floating ball type float switch try lifting it up and shaking it to see if pump starts running. These micro switches stick after several years use. If you have a round canister on the side it is a pressure activated switch that also has a micro switch inside that completes the circut when the pressure on the diafram is enough to click the switch. I f it has a float on a rod it has a switch at the top of the pump that shuts it off when at low level, and turns it on at high water level. Most pumps have a two part cord. The pump plugs into the float control switch, so it does not get power till the float switch clicks on. If you have a two part plug, then separate them and plug the cord in that leads directly to the pump body. This will tell you if the pump is working. If it is then replace the float switch assembly. Also there is either a few screws holding the pump screen on to the pump on the underside. Some simply snap fit to the pump body. Often I will find stones, wood chips string etc. in the pump impeller. That is what pumps the water by squeezing it into the small 1 1/4 output orifice. That about covers it. Maybe you installed the check valve upside down and the water will not pass through a check valve that is facing down instead of up. If you took the bottom strainer plate off the pump and cleaned it out in there, the pump impeller may have stipped its splines and consequently only the shaft turns. Usually I find small stones, string wood chips etc. that stop the pump. The breaker should pop if it is the proper amperage, when stopprd up with debris. Good luck. Replace the float with either a pressure operated float switch, or a verticle float that has a rod in the center, Home Depot has ubiversal floats of all three variations.

The pump should start by itself and shut off by itself as well. The float switch needs replacing. If new, return it. If you want to test the pump, separate the two plugs and plug in the one that leads to the main pump body.

Replace the GBI breaker it is bad.

More than likely the pump motor is not sealed properly and the motor is getting wet. If you have warranty left take it back, as the problem could be severe. I have pulled these pumps apart and used silicone sealant on them, but it doesn't usually hold long if the pump has to run allot. Usually if the pump leaks into the motor, the body has been damaged or warped to the point that repairing them is pointless.

After searching, a clear answer was found ... if the cord replacement exists, it costs a lot.

Manual for this type of sump pump says:

The manual also says that running the pump when dry will ruin the seals.
This implies that the water level setting is set so the seals will not be damaged

You might be able to dig the sump deeper, but I don't know if that meets your objective.

Hello there:
The burning smell that you are smelling is the motor windings which means that the motor is shot
what probably happned is that the seals that seal the pump from the motor failed allowing the oil to get into the motor and as you know electricty and oil do not like each other so it fried the windngs on the motor ok
you can have the pump rebuilt for around $150 or just get a new one ok

Maybe your check valve is letting water go back down the well.

Troubleshooting steps pg 13 in manual list several things.
Check air valve for leaks.

The manual says: "Your new pump has a 30/50 PSI
switch, so adjust the tank pre-charge pressure to 28 PSI.:
But the manual does not say or show how to adjust pre-charge pressure.
The 30/50PSI means the pump turns on when pressure falls to 30, and then runs until pressure rises to to 50. So the switch is preset and not adjustable.

I would make sure that the pump is setting securely in the pit so that it can not move and hang the float up on anything.If you have a lot of trash or debris in the pit then unplug your pump and remove and clean regularly I have used bricks or wire to hold the pump in place to keep the float free.
One of the best pumps that I've sold for over 25 years is a little giant. They have a 1/3 H.P. model with the float secured on a rod hooked to the pump casing so it can only move up or down. Hope this helps. Thank you.

If the pump doesn't have an intergrated non return or check valve, then one has to fitted on the outlet side in the line to prevent back-flow of water, it sounds like there may also be something blocking the impeller?
Also check the polarity is spinning the pump in the right direction
