I have ef 2300, engine

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly
On the rotor you need to read from the rectifier to the metal for shorts. No shorts allowed. There is a varistor as part of the rotor winding circuit and if the varistor has failed the rotor will not work. If the vairstor fails usually there is a problem with the rotor wnding. I can tell you I have had them read just fine wire to wire but... they were still defective.

Also check the condenser wires from the control panel through the stator winding. (usually yellow) Disconnect one of the wires from the condenser and probe the terminals. This should read less than 5 ohms. INSPECT the condensor wires..... there is often a quick disconnect terminal somewhere in the wires. These terminals are cylinder shaped and have been known to melt.
Read across the condensor itself with the meter on R x 10K you should see a momentary jump in resistance and then the meter drifts quickly to infinity each time you REVERSE the test leads and probe the condenser.

There is also a SQUARE diode pack with 3 or 4 wires inside the control panel that usually has a single mounting screw. One terminal will be 90 deg out from the rest of them (Common) read the terminals of the diode pack to the common. Reverse the leads and do it again. If should read continuity in one polarity and open in the other (leads reversed).

As for the stator checks reading wire to wire is good... but read wire to stator case also. No shorts allowed.

I believe you will either find a bad rotor or a problem in the condenser circuit.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

Generator has voltage drop, why?

Most of the small portable generators will depend on the engine speed to regulate the voltage. If the motor is at the correct speed you are getting 120 volts 60 hertz, if not it will read lower like 115 volts 55 hertz or so. This can be fixed by adjusting the governor, or idle speed needle. Can you help me? I have generator yamaha ef 2600.

As you describe the problem, the reason is unstable load handling.
This means that the fuel or air is not enough.

When begin to be unsteady:
  1. If smoke comes out of muffler - the input air is not sufficient. Try to clean or change air filter (cleaner).
  2. If no smoke, the fuel is not enough. The reason may be the mechanical governor, or the fuel supply to it, fuel filter/strainer etc.

I have a Yamaha Ef2600 fw generator that starts and produces voltage and current but also gives out a 'clunking' noise on a 2 - 4 second cycle. What is wrong with it?

Based on the search results there are a explanations, for the clunking noise in your Yamaha EF2600FW generator; 1. Load handling; One potential reason could be that the generator is facing difficulties in managing the load, which could be due to fuel or air supply. This can result in the generator producing a clunking noise. 2. Fuel shortage; Another possible cause might be a lack of fuel supply to the generator leading to a knocking sound. It is advisable to address this fuel issue before operating the generator to prevent any damage. 3. Storage conditions; The clunking noise could also arise from storage conditions. Over time certain components like piston slap or dry rod bearings may develop problems resulting in sounds when the generator is running. To diagnose and resolve the problem with your generator it is recommended that you take the steps; Check and ensure a fuel supply. If needed, clean or replace the carburetor. Inspect the generator thoroughly for any signs of damage or wear in areas like piston and rod bearings. These actions should help. Rectify any issues causing the clunking noise, in your Yamaha EF2600FW generator. If the problem continues you might need to reach out to a technician or get in touch, with Yamaha customer support for help. Always prioritize safety when dealing with generators or any other equipment. If you feel uncertain or uncomfortable about troubleshooting or making repairs yourself it's best to seek assistance, from a professional.

My YG650DE Yamaha gen runs good but there is no electric power is there a reset switch or some other fix?

Here is some reasons for reference: 1.After the diesel generator is stopped, the residual magnetism is often lost, because the material used for the magnetic pole of the exciter is close to the soft steel, and the residual magnetism is small. After the shutdown, when there is no current in the excitation winding, the magnetic field will disappear. 2.The magnetic pole of the diesel generator loses its magnetic properties. 3.Damage of excitation circuit components or circuit breakage, short circuit or grounding phenomena. 4.The exciter brush is not in good contact with the commutator and pressure of brush holder is insufficient. 5.Excitation winding wiring error, opposite polarity. 6.Stator winding and rotor winding of generator set open circuit. 7.Poor contact between diesel generator brush and slip ring, or insufficient brush pressure. 8.Diesel generator lead wire wiring is loose or switch contact is poor. 9.The fuse box is fused. 10.The "auto-manual-de-excitation" switch on the control panel is in the de-excitation position (automatic generator set has "auto-manual-de-excitation" switch). 11.The voltmeter is damaged. 12.Rotary rectifier module is damaged.

Yamaha 5500P industrial series generator. It started back firing and will almost die then power back up. Was running great then just one day started this. At first I thought condinsation as it seemed to struggle with gas then the major back firing. Any ideas please.

Start by replacing fuel. Completely drain the tank and carburetor fuel bowl. Do not use what fuel you may have, get 2 gallons of fresh fuel from gas station. If problem clears then likely water in fuel.

If still backfires with fresh fuel then likely an ignition issue. Failing ignition module or possibly a sheared flywheel key. Try reducing spark plug gap to .025" .

Yamaha ef6300isde generator - 30 amp mode - flips to overload after about 5 to 10 seconds. Generator runs well and all other plugs work when switched to 120/240. Any ideas?

There are several types of overload to consider: A. Catastrophic: something has gone very wrong. There may be a phase to phase short or two shorts to ground. This assumes you have an ungrounded system. With luck the main circuit breaker will open without destroying itself; B. Steady state over current: The load on the generator is greater than the rating on the circuit breaker. Time to parallel in another generatoror shed load; C. Transient over current: Suppose you were running two generators in parallel and one failed. The remaining machine may experience an over current condition that causes the breaker to trip. You can also have transient breaker trips upon activation of a large motor e.g., fire pump or bow thruster; D.Thermal: There is a big difference in sea water temperature as you travel the world. It is possible to have an overload caused by the diesel engine's inability to shed heat in the tropics. Continued operation could damage the diesel engine. Again, parallel in another generator or shed load.

Yamaha 2000 generator won't produce power, runs fine otherwise

The generator does not operate in accordance with the specified technical conditions, such as too high stator voltage, iron loss increases; if the load current is too large, the copper loss of the stator winding increases; if the frequency is too low, the cooling fan speed becomes slow, affecting the heat dissipation of generator; the power factor is too low, so that the rotor excitation current increases, resulting in the rotor heating. Check whether the indication of monitoring instrument is normal. If it is abnormal, necessary adjustment and treatment must be carried out to operate the generator in accordance with the specified technical conditions. My Yamaha ef2400is keeps surging while idling

Probably find that the carburetor jets are a bit clogged. Remove and soak in carburetor cleaner and then blow out with compressed air. Or alternately get a very fine drill set and clean, but be careful if choosing this method. Also clean the air filter. cheers
