The phones do not ring on an incoming call, but we

first perform a reset on the unit.

1. Unplug the power cord from your a Uniden Tru 8885 answering machine.
2. Press the "Record" and "Alternate" keys while you reconnect the power. When the answering machine restarts, it will display a message, "Confirm Reset?"
3. Press the button next to the "Y" to confirm that you want to reset it. The Uniden Tru 8885 will then reset itself to the default factory settings.

post for a fllow up.

Handset charger is not charging..

is it the charger, or is it the phone not taking a charge? Many times it's the battery inside the handset. I'd try that first.
Otherwise, you can test the voltage of the power supply charger with a volt meter. If you've got the proper voltage listed on the transformer plug (normally around 5 volts DC).

De-register/register

To De-register handset while original base present:
-Use De-register menu

To De-register handset without original base present:
-Press and hold "End" button, and while holding that, press and hold # as well.
OR
-Remove battery
-While holding * and # replace battery, and keep holding
-You should hear one beep (let go now)
-Press right menu soft button (at top)
-Should hear one beep and Clear EEPROM/RAM on screen
-Remove and replace battery once again (no need to hold any buttons now)

(USING ANY OF THE TWO METHODS ABOVE MEANT FOR NON-BASE PRESENT, WHILE BASE IS PRESENT WILL TAKE UP HANDSET SPACE ON BASE, eg. HS1 will become HS2, while base reserves HS1 name... a base reset will be required to deal with this).

Resetting the base itself (if you have any handsets deregister them normally before this)
-Unplug power
-Hold 'Delete Messages' key while plugging power back until beep (88 or 0 messages may show)
-Press PLAY once
(To check that all went well, check to see if anything shows under ROOM MONITOR, nothing should be there)

Retrieve deleted phone message

Find the customer service # for Uniden products and get to tech support.  They may be able to help you retrieve deleted messages.  Since it's digital and not a tape like the old Sony's, you may not be able to retrieve it.

Handset No2 displays out of range message

Please check that you have correctly registered the second handset to the base. It may be necessary to de-register the second handset and then re-register it. "Out of range" just means the second handset is not within range of the base phone it was registered to.

Not able to make calls or not able to receive calls

Unplug the base unit for a few seconds, then plug it back in. This seems to clear it up for a period of time before it happens again. It seems to be good for about a month.
