Lost remote for sony blue ray and need to know how
some DVD's will let you manually start them on the Sony blu-ray and the Sharp Blu-ray players. Other DVD's require the remote control. It is probably the DVD and not the blu-ray player. Pick up a inexpensive universal remote if you cannot find the original. Sony devices are easy to program on any universal remote.

If all other function buttons are working, and only 'channel advance' only doesn't work, the fault will be with the inside contact of the remote control. It is common that rubber dust and dirt to get accumulated at the inside contact point pads of the remote control This will happen with most of the remote controls,as the push pads are made up of siliconised rubber. During repeated press, the inside of the pad will get powdered and will stick into the contacts. This fault can be retified by cleaning the remote control. To confirm the fault, just place the remote control's front end in front of a celphone camera, after the cellphone has been set to camera mode, press that button which seems to be non-working. If any infrared rays comes out of the remote infrared LED, the cellphone camera will sense it and you can see an amage of it on its screen.
If there is no such image seen when the faulty button is pressed, and you gets image for all other button presses, make sure that there is no proper contact with key button to inside printed pad. You have to open the remote control and clean it with either rectified spirit or medical quality turpentine. Never use strong solvents like petrol or so,. as it may damge rubber parts. Just wipe it with a soft cloth dipped in the above solvents, dry it well, refit the remote control. It will be free from trouble. OK.

Another suggestion there is on the web? several websites with listings of codes for various remotes, sorry not able to include web details, only found by searching myself once for a remote code.

Buttons do not work on my URC-8910
Most modern infrared remotes have a tendancy, after much use, for the contact between the button and the pad to get dirty or greasy or tarnished, etc.. I've serviced many of them and I take them apart (some not easy--have to remove a screw--maybe not). Anyway the pad surface has to be cleaned. I use a cloth dampened with alcohol and wipe over them and in some cases I need to take a soft pencil eraser and polish them. Hardest part is getting the unit apart.
