Any ideas what I should replace? Do I just replace the control board? Would that one relay cause the whole dishwasher to have no power?

If you have a multimeter set to continuity and see if it burnt out you might be able to replace it at an electronics part place also see if there are any fuses in there

I have a Bosch SHU5315UC and the only cycle that will run is the rinse/hold. None of the other cycle buttons will work. It seems as if they have no resistance or spring back when pressed. Any ideas?

Depending on age and other factors; key pads do wear out and require replacement. Many of these controllers us a silicone positive touch system like the keypad on a computer. Others use a direct contact system that has a spring action and contact points. If the later fails, it can be due to use, a breakdown of the recoil system, or damaged contacts.

Dishwasher filling with water when

Hello, welcome to FixYa.

A very common problem for Bosch dishwashers of that era. A faulty fill valve...sticking in the "open" position.

It could be debris stuck in the valve, but I wouldn't chance it...just replace it for the cost is much cheaper than a new floor.

This is what to look for...

e601791.jpg

As long as your model is indeed a Bosch, this info below will be accurate.

Original part is # 425458. It usually retails for about $20 - $30USD at places such as "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" to name a couple, if needed. They may be available at your local brick & mortar parts depot/vendors.

**Before attempting to repair the unit please turn off the power and the water supply to the dishwasher...safety first**

If you remove the lower kick plate/toe panel, you will see the inlet valve to your left...

i.e.

Replacing it or to check for debris in the filter/screen at the inlet is pretty straight forward. Here`s how...

1) undo the water line. ( here you can visually inspect the screen in the valve...if nothing noted, you'll likely need to replace it as follows )

2) Remove the two #20 torx screws fastening it in place.

156e176.jpg

3) the feed tube to the machine at the back of the valve and swap it with the new one.

and

Once the new one is in or it's all clear you should be good to go.

Let me know if you need any further assistance, good luck. Thanks for choosing FixYa and good luck. Please take a moment to rate the assistance provided here for you and a brief testimony on your experience here at FixYa is appreciated as well

My dishwasher does not fill

Hi

When the Dishwasher is not filling in, you'll need to check for the water inlet valve, the filter screen and the float switch/assembly. Also check for the float assembly inside the dishwasher. When water is filling your dishwasher, a float rises along with it. As the float reaches a certain threshold level, it shuts off the flow of water, thereby preventing a leak. Sometimes the float can get stuck in the wrong position in your dishwasher, and it can prevent your dishwasher from filling. Sometimes it can happen due to float valve and on other occasions due to float switch. Inspect the water hose coming to the dishwasher for any blockages. If these are fine then it's due to Water Inlet Valve. Use a multimeter and check for the continuity on inlet valve. If you don't get any value on the multimeter then you'll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance. Daniel

Cloudy film on glasses

First perform a vinegar cycle wash in the dishwasher. Pour a cup of vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher. Keep the temperature at the highest setting possible and perform a wash cycle. Then start using a dishwasher most probably that would solve the problem. If this does not solve the problem then there must be some parts worn out or faulty creating the problem.

There are many probable causes of failure .

To clean the dishes the water temperature is essential. It the water is not hot then the dishes will not be cleaned properly. So check the water temperature.

Also check the filter in your dishwasher.Clean the filter if there is accumulation of debris in the filter

If you are in an hard water zone , then try reducing the amount of detergent used and then try cleaning the dishes

Bosch diswasher it starts on 2hr and gets stcuk on

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description
I'd say the issue actually with the control...unfortunately. The "1" being displayed is actually an error code associated with a heating fault.
The reason it starts with 2HR in the display is the last cycle exceeded two hours or the water temp was too cold...no heating.
Bosch has had a history of this exact problem I'm about to lay out for you and this is the first thing I'd be looking for if called out to service the unit with the symptoms you've described. **B/S/H/ also issued a recall on certain models between 1999 - 2006 depending on the model & serial number, you can check with yours but you'll need the serial number too. The issue was directly related to the heating circuit (specifically the heat relay on the control) Here`s the link if you want to see for yourself **

http://microsites.boschappliances.com/safetyrecall/dishwasher/

As I've alluded to the issue is likely within the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ).

My first suggestion would be contacting Bosch re: the recall or calling in an authorized bosch service tech. if that is an option for you and your budget however, If you feel capable of checking this on your own, there`s a way to visually inspect the control yourself...it really isn't very complicated.

It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board.

dabfa62.jpg

The culprit will 99% of the times be one of the pins from the heater relay,

9f1823d.jpg

**Flip this over and inspect the solder joints, it will be obvious when you see it.**

This ones new, but it's where to look...

9119d99.jpg

...hence the unit sit`s and takes longer & longer to finish because it can`t heat to advance or unless the 2 buttons for "cancel" are pressed...or takes a long time as I mentioned and eventually display's "1" on units with a display and usually very poor cleaning as a result.

You can also run the unit through a regular or econo cycle ...any cycle with the exception of rinse & hold, and with the door panel removed place an ammeter on the gray/black wire it should draw 11 amps during the wash cycle...after it fills and the flow switch indicates it has adequate water to engage the heater.

i.e.

f57273b.jpg
**My Opinion - if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...but it has to be done well...or it will not last, although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on there behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?)**

**Please disconnect the power or turn off the breaker before attempting any service to the dishwasher.**

If you do not feel comfortable attempting this service, call a local pro, preferably one familiar with Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau/Siemens, to service your machine.

Hope this answer`s your question, let me know if I can assist you further.

Stuck on drain cycle maybe needs to be reset Need

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. Based on your description, it sounds like the emergency overfill switch has been actuated. Here`s what to do and what to look for. **FIRST- Turn off the breaker/power at your homes service panel...safety first of course** Remove the the bottom panel, referred to as a toe panel or kick-plate, essentially the lower service panel. When you remove the outer toe panel, (typically black in color, though sometimes white depending on the model, customization etc.) there will be another small "L" shaped panel which is non finished steel, I find removing that allows much easier access as well, but it's optional for this. This panel can be somewhat more difficult as it secures the plastic channeling for the wires but if you observe closely you`ll see it does "snap" out of place...carefully. Once the panel has been removed check for any obvious signs of water in the base ( the unit has a plastic overfill basin with a float which will actuate an emergency overfill cycle, hence the drain pump runs & runs ) If you don`t see any water in this area, direct your attention to the left in this basin/bottom ( from the front ) and you should see a device which will resemble a "stir stick" you`d use for coffee etc. it will be a red in color stick. With the aid of a wooden spoon, long screwdriver, or if you can manage to reach by hand, lift it up and down gently and listen for a "click". If there is no sign of water and you can here the "click" when lifting up and down the float actuater ( red stick ) then turn the machine back on and give it a try before reassembling the toe panel so you can observe for any possible leaks. Let me know what you find. This is the most likely cause of the symptom you are describing so we can move forward if this doesn`t resolve the issue. Thanks for choosing FixYa. Good luck. Takes more than 2 hours to complete a one hour

Hello,

Welcome to fixya.

**What I`m about to share applies to Almost all Electronic control B/S/H/ dishwashers. That includes Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau and Siemens.**

Based on your description I know what the problem is, though you may not like it.

I would still start by checking your water inlet temperature, the unit must be connected to a "hot" water supply line.

Try running the hot water at your sink tap to insure the cold water is out of the lines just before you turn on the dishwasher.

That is just a suggestion out of courtesy however...

If it is what I suspect, the control, this won't make any difference but it's worth a try. If on the other hand the water is good and hot entering the machine, you likely have an issue with the control as I alluded to.

The reason your dishwasher never completes a cycle and displays "1" ( 1 is an error code for not heating ) or takes an extremely long time, is the control has detected a heating error.

Here`s the most likely reason why it has detected the error...

Even if your home water supply appears hot, it's not hot enough and must be heated by the dishwasher to insure a proper clean and dry.

The error likely lye`s within`the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ).

This is why it runs really long/forever, display`s "1" unless you "stop" it or by pressing the two buttons for "cancel".

To repair your unit It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board.

93165df.jpg

The burnt solder joint will be one of the pins from the heater relay, hence the unit runs on and on ( because it can`t heat to advance or until canceled ) trying to heat the water.

You can also enter a test to check for proper amperage via the use of an ammeter as such...

**Further to this, if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on there behalf nor do I profess to know better. Drain pump running when unit starts but no water to appliance

The machine probably has water in the base (not visibly in the machine, but in the base where the conponents are). Pull the machine out, sit the front on a large towel and holding the back of the d/w pull it towards you. Any water trapped in the base will drain out. It may be a fair amount as the flood safety switch will activate on approx 1.5 ltrs. Once you've cleared the water run a prewash or quickwash to check d/w. Hope this helps.

CL stays on

Generally, the reset buttons are marked with a small dot by them, there are usually two and they should be presses simultaneously while the machine is on for approx 5secs. (Should say 'reset' or 'cancel drain') The two buttons are usually separated by one of the other buttons.
Alternatively, the unit may reset by keeping the starting button pressed for 5 secs. (if it has a start button).
Hope this helps.
