Generally, when this happens, the control board is not turning on the water heater due to a bad control board, heater or limiting fuse.

The door switch is definitely not the problem if the indicator lights are not coming on. These lights are supposed to come on when the door is open.
The problem is 1 of 3 things:
1) No power to outlet that DW is plugged into;
2) Bad connection where power cord is connected to dishwasher (see very bottom front, under kick panel)
3) Some problem internal to the DW (eg., bad switch, shorted wire, etc., )
Our SHX46A is definitely having problem 3, but Bosch's manual gives zero help. So, off to find more info online or, lastly, to call Bosch repair person. Sigh.

Hi

When the Dishwasher won't fill you'll need to check for the water inlet hose, the water inlet valve and the float switch assembly. When the water fills your dishwasher, a float rises along with it. As the float reaches a certain threshold level, it shuts off the flow of water, thereby preventing a leak. Sometimes the float can get stuck in the wrong position in your dishwasher, and it can prevent your dishwasher from filling. Sometimes it can happen due to float valve and on other occasions due to float switch. Inspect the water hose coming to the dishwasher for any blockages. If the hose is not clogged then check the water inlet valve for any clogs, if the water will not even fill for few seconds then certainly the water inlet valve is bad and should be replaced. You can also use a multimeter to check continuity on inlet valve. If you don't get any value on the multimeter then you'll need to replace the water inlet valve assembly. However, if the valve is fine then the float switch assembly should be replaced. Hope this helps... Please post back if you need more information.

Hi
This issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. First make sure that the drain is not clogged and remove clogs if present. If no visible lint is present then remove the lower front access panel to check the drain filter and drain pump for any clogs, you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump completely. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller & clean the chopper assembly. After this if the issue is still there then the drain pump assembly should be replaced. Hope this helps... Please post back for any further assistance.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

The problem you're describing is a very unique and unusual one In my experience with Bosch...which spans quite some time.

Based on your description, ( provided the model is indeed a SHX46A02 ) is it possible the entire dishwasher may be leaning forward thus when the top rack is loaded and heavy it is moving forward slightly ?

As unlikely as that sounds it's worth a look because the rack rails/guides do not have any adjustments on them. I could send you a complete Bosch service manual for your machine if you provide an email address and you can see for yourself if you like.

You can remove the assembly to to where it attaches to the side wall by doing the following...

To remove the rail, disengage the end cap by applying outward pressure to the cap's top tab, unclipping it from the rail. Then slide the rail out from the guide rollers.

**The Upper Rack Guide Rollers are permanently attached to the Tank and cannot be removed or repaired.**

Let me know what you find and I'll try and help in any manner I can. I'll watch for your reply.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

Based on your description, " dishwasher is continually letting in water from water supply, even when unit is turned off "... and to answer your question, the issue is likely with the inlet/water valve.

**To remedy this you will need to replace the valve, not surprising for Bosch unfortunately**

This is what to look for..i.e.

e601791.jpg

As long as your model number is indeed correct, this info below will be accurate.

Original part is # 425458. It usually retails for about $20 - $30USD at places such as "searspartsdirect.com" "repairclinic.com" to name a couple.

**Before attempting to repair the unit please turn off the power and the water supply to the dishwasher...safety first**

If you remove the lower kick plate/toe panel, you will see the inlet valve to your left...

i.e.

Replacing it or to check for debris in the filter/screen at the inlet is pretty straight forward. Here`s how...

1) undo the water line. ( here you can visually inspect the screen in the valve...if nothing noted, you'll likely need to replace it as follows )

2) Remove the two #20 torx screws fastening it in place.

3) the feed tube to the machine at the back of the valve and swap it with the new one.

Once the new one is in you should be good to go.

Let me know if you need any further assistance, otherwise good luck.

Check that the water valves are opening and allowing water to flow. If the pump is not getting water or is jammed, it will make a humming noise as well

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. The issue seems to be its electronic control going bad and should be replaced; you can buy the parts from this link. However, before replacing the board check the door switch and also take it apart and blow air with the help of hair dryer on the board. Please accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Test the door switch and its wiring. The dishwasher is supposed to stop when door is open.

About drain pump, check the pressure switch and eventually replace it(pressure is water level, this is not the float, that is usually overfill-if there is no pressure switch, check float). That is the device that detects if drain is over, stopping the drain pump.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

**What I`m about to share applies to Almost all Electronic control B/S/H/ dishwashers. That includes Bosch, Thermador, Gaggenau and Siemens.**

Based on your description I know what the problem is, though you may not like it. I would still start by checking your water inlet temperature, the unit must be connected to a "hot" water supply line. Try running the hot water at your sink tap to insure the cold water is out of the lines just before you turn on the dishwasher.

That is just a suggestion out of courtesy however...

If it is what I suspect, the control, this won't make any difference but it's worth a try. If on the other hand the water is good and hot entering the machine, you likely have an issue with the control as I alluded to.

The reason your dishwasher never completes a cycle or takes an extremely long time, is the control has detected a heating error. Here`s the most likely reason why it has detected the error...

Even if your home water supply appears hot, it's not hot enough and must be heated by the dishwasher to insure a proper clean and dry.

The issue with your dishwasher likely lye`s within`the electronic timer/control, specifically the heater relay solder joint. ( a faulty flow switch, ntc or heater can also cause this, but not very probable ).

This is why it runs really long/forever unless you "stop" it or by pressing the two buttons for "cancel".

To repair your unit It will require you to remove the control from the unit and then remove the control from it`s plastic housing and look for a burnt solder contact on the printed circuit board.

93165df.jpg
The image here will differ slightly from yours, but the remedy and procedure is the same.

This will be one of the pins from the heater relay, hence the unit runs on and on ( because it can`t heat to advance or until canceled ) trying to heat the water.

You can also enter a test to check for proper amperage via the use of an ameter as such...

80d9748.jpg

**Further to this, if you or someone you know is proficient at soldering, a lot of times it can be remedied by simply repairing the solder...although Bosch recommend`s replacing the control and I don`t pretend to speak on there behalf nor do I profess to know better. This is just my experience (it work`s) and my opinion (why buy new if one can repair ?)**

**Please disconnect the power before attempting any service to the dishwasher. If you do not feel comfortable attempting this service, call a local pro, preferably one familiar with Bosch/Thermador/Gaggenau, to service your machine.**

Hope this answer`s your question's, let me know if I can assist you further. Thank`s for visiting "fixya" for your repair inquiries.

Please take a moment and rate this solution to it's helpfulness to you and leave a testimony if you're satisfied.

Good luck.
