I have the Makita DC18ra s charger for 110V. by

yes you can fix it i have done 2 charges but white you are in there if you chance the large round capacitor to a 450v one you then can use the charger in 220 v you will have to increase the size of the voltage resistant diode to 240v (the vrd101 part in the charger) or by pass it with a straight bridge then the charger should work in 220v because the rest of the charger is exactly the same the parts will be around $10 ibought the parts from farnell

Flashing red and green how to fix it

If you have both red and green lights flashing, the charger is reading the battery as defective and will not charge it. It's very rare to be able to fix either a battery or charger, you just have to find out which is bad and replace that one. It's almost always the battery but sometimes chargers do go bad. The only way to test them is to try charging the battery on another charger or try charging different batteries on your charger.

Makita DC18RA Makstar Li ion Charger three lights

Alternate Red and Green flashing means bad battery. Buy a new one, or take it to a Makita Service center for replacement if it's under warranty. Normally the yellow light indicates hot battery, but it could also mean dirty battery contacts so the heat sensor can't be read, or that the fan is clogged with dust and unable to cool the battery. The manual says let the battery cool and try again. If the yellow still flashes, it's contacts or the fan.Read the manual online at:http://www.makita.ca/data/upload/accessorypbim/417_im_english.pdf

I bought a makita tool set from Home Depot not

Hi David, there are 2 things you can do.
1) If you still have the reciept, I would take it back to Home Depot and attempt an exchange, assuming the tools look like they only have half an hour on them. That will be the quickest, if it works.
2) Follow the link below, type in your zip code and take it into your nearest Authorized Warranty Center. They will also require a receipt.

At this point it is irrelevant what is wrong with it if its under warranty. If it ends up not being under warranty for whatever reason, your assumptions are correct. It could very well be both batteries at the same time, or a faulty charger. Big box stores like Home Depot dont recycle stock the way they should. I went to a local Home Depot and found a DeWalt battery with a date code that was 4 years old.

I hope this helps, and good luck.

Nicad battery for makita want charge

For NiCd and NiMH batteries - check the battery voltage (for a good battery it is ~ 19, V); each battery contains 15 units 1.2 V each; you can test each unit after disassembling the battery case (my have 4 screws each, and the case has bottom and top parts). First charge the batteries; second, disassemble cases and check each unit voltage (shouldn't be less than 1.2 V); then take any battery tester (for AA, AAA and other batteries and accus for home usage), attach 2 long (~10 inches) wires to tester's testing contacts, and test each 1.2V unit for current - if it is in "yellow" or "red" zone - the unit is dead and needs replacement

What is a trust-able website/store

toolup.com is pretty good especially if you purchase tools when they're on sale. I bought this charger from them and with shipping it was still a lot cheaper than buying it at home depot.

Battery will not charge, charger

If both lights are blinking on the charger after putting the battery on to charge, the battery is no longer chargeable. Most likely it's bad cells inside the battery, the charger is reading the battery as bad and will not charge it. The only fix is to buy a new battery.
