The most common cause for this condition is a problem with the defrost system. The defrost heater turns on several times throughout the day to melt away any frost that may have accumulated on the freezer evaporator coils. ... If the defrost heater does not have continuity, replace it.

The compressor won't switch off until it either overheats or the fridge cabinet is cold enough for the thermostat to switch it off and if there is a fault preventing it cooling, it is likely to run until doomsday though it is worth mentioning an auto defrost panel if stuck switched on can cause this...

If that is the problem the compressor will be working hard and will become quite hot as will the condenser and one of the compressor pipes.

When power is supplied to the motor it is likely to hum whether it is running or not, though it is a different sort of hum if it isn't running.
If the compressor pipes aren't getting hot/cold and the condenser isn't warm/hot then either the compressor is broken, not running or the refrigerant has escaped.

Hello. I don't know the make/model of your unit but you need to check what else is using that particular circuit! That outlet might be protecting multiple outlets around the kitchen. The outlet could be worn out and tripping erroneously. Also, if your unit has electronic boards in it(most do), they should not be on a GFCI outlet or breaker. The way these devices check current to keep you safe can sometimes damage electronic items plugged in to them. I tell my customers to have an electrician change the outlet or breaker to a regular style(unprotected). Added to this, you need to check your owners manual--installing your particular item on a GFCI circuit can, in some cases, void the warranty due to the above explanation. I hope I helped you!

It could be the thermistor inside the fridge, unplug it and it defaults to the highest setting. Mine started working, and in 20 minutes I had ice in the freezer.
