Makita 18V LXT Circular Saw Questions & Answers
Saw just cut out light works but saw wont
The problem could be with the brushes or the power switch. The light will still work if either of these things are not working properly. The brushes should be between 1/2" and 1/8' long and should move freely in the brush holder. The spring should be long enough and strong enough to push the brush against the armature. If the brushes are OK do a continuity check on the switch contacts.
My Makita 18v 61/2" lithium
These usually have two problems, one, the Batteries just go bad, second, is the speed controller, it is NOT anything to do with lubrication at all, obviously one must have sufficient, but that's all.
Most often, a new battery will work wonders. If however you replace the battery and it is still the same, then your speed controller has gone faulty, and will need to be replaced. If you take it to a hardware store where they sell these same units, they will/should allow you to try a fresh battery, and then you will be able to quickly tell where your problem is. As related prior.
These new batteries are meant to be real good, however it appears that they are very cycle charge dependent. After a while they loose their "Oomph" as it were.
Can something be done
More likely it is a battery issue.
Often users run the saw for a period AFTER the battery starts to go down. The result is reverse charging the weakest cell which then will no longer take a charge
Try a new fully charged battery and NEVER run the saw beyond the point where it starts to slow down due to battery charge.
I have the same problem the charger won't charge
the battery pack has a number of small batterys in it any one of them can go down on you and then the hole pack go's dead and refuses to charge, if you can get the battery pack apart you could fix one pack by taking a good battery from one pack and replacing the dud one in another pack, the real secret is dont knock the batterys right out, recharge them before they go completle flat,,,and dont ever leave them flat or they will go into whats called a "supper discharged state" if they do there never going to recharge
I have a makita 2703
First thing I would check are the Carbon Brushes. The are # 75 in the picture
