Dewalt D51850 Heavy Duty 20 Degree Full Round Head Framing Nailer Questions & Answers
Nail jammed
You may have to disassemble the front end or at least take the magazine feed off to get it out
It double nails quite a lot
Time for an oring kit and also replace the trigger valve. These nailers have some vinyl /gold colored orings that fail. If you buy a kit, , make sure that the vinyl orings in the kit are still usable. If you have a source for buna orings, use them instead. Good luck.
Nail jammed
try to pry it out with another nail and file down any damage it did to the magazine... good luck
Will not nail anymore, what could it be ?
Dewalt nailers have some vinyl orings that fail. Usually found within the trigger valve, headvalve, and between the cylinder and cylinder spacer (white plastic piece). Oring kit sold by dewalt will contain most of the orings needed. The kit may not have orings for the trigger. You will at need two orings (2mm x 1.5mm) for the trigger valve stem or just replace the valve. Use white grease or silicone paste lube on all the orings. Good luck.
DEWALT D51850, Air Blow by trigger, factory has
Dewalt uses clear vinyl orings in the trigger and around the cylinder between the bulkhead. These orings do not hold up. They should be replaced with black rubber type to solve the air leak problem. Replace tow orings on the stem inside the trigger valve ( 2MM X 1.5MM). Replace two under the bulkhead against the cylinder (larger one is 74.4MM X 3.1MM, ((smaller is 58.4MM X 2.6MM or universal oring number 141)) ).
The piston won`t retract in order to load the next
Piston not retracting is caused by several issues including bent driver blade, piston oring too worn, or check band on the outer part of the cylinder broken / out of place. Easy to check. Remove the head and pull the driver. Examine driver for bend. If not bent insert driver into cylinder and check for worn oring. The driver/oring should fit snugly and driver should hold in position in the cylinder without sliding down the cylinder under its own weight. Examine the lower bumper for missing pieces or cracked. Replace as needed. If driver /oring and bumper are ok, pull out the cylinder and examine the check band. Black piece of rubber covering series of small holes. Should fig snugly on cylinder, replace as needed. Repair kit does not include the lower bumper or the checkband. Good luck with your repair.
Brand new unit. Used last weekend, no problem.
Orings /other parts tend to stick when nailer is new. Dewalt uses some vinyl orings that have been causing premature failure. Be sure to add a few drops of oil when used. Too much oil is not good. Wrong oil will cause orings to swell and cause problems such as yours. Your nailer's firing valve can be reset by rapping the nailer against rubber surface such as a thick rugger mat or coiled rubber air hose. Remove airline and nails, being carefull not to damage the head, rap had against rubber mat and retest gun. If it did not reset rap against nose of gun and test. If no joy, you will most likely need to remove head and manually move cylinder up/down and /or check vinyl orings for failure. Before you try to reset the gun, make sure that the safety is pushing the firing pin all the way in. Air removed, look under the trigger as you push down on safey, if it does go all the way in try bump-firing the gun (for test have nails removed). Hold in trigger and quicky /firmly strike gun against rubber pad. Good luck
When I press the trigger air is released by my
Usual cause is user has failed to oil the nailer adequately.
FULL solution is to dis-assemble the unit and look for problems with the piston and driver.
If any O rings or seals are worn, replace them and lubricate the nailer.
IF YOU happen to be lucky, you might get away with using a rod and pushing the driver back from where the nails come out and then HEAVILY lubricate with say 12 drops of air tool oil and see if you can get it to cycle.
Dewalt framing nailer
Dewalt makes a great line of nailers and has a good network of factory repair centers with helpful repair department. Their web address is
www.dewalt.com . Click on service/support button then look for Instruction Manual button to download your manual. When search window appears enter your model number. You can also view a parts list and order parts. I have a very old dewalt nailer that was not listed on their website but my local service center made me a copy of theirs at no charge. Good luck.
