first check to make sure there is a bag in the machine, if so make sure that its in securely, there is a pin switch in the bag door that wont allow the machine to turn on if there is no bag in it. If that's okay, then find the knob on the top of the machine ( in the middle of the canister ) and make sure its turned to the maximum, that is a sensitivity knob that can keep the machine from working ( in case it was clogged, but if its too sensitive it could think the machine is clogged when it really isn't ).

on the side of the vacuum there are rubber guards.These slide off....pull them off with a pair of needle nose.pull the slides off from the front. then open the front cover,at the bottom there are a couple little "nibs" that hold front off..Gently put a flat screw driver in and pull up..The machine will then be readt to open.best way is to put machine upside down and take the bottom off...

HI, It was most likely pulled out too far and the spring is broken. Best suggestion is to replace the complete cordwinder assy., cord and all..then you're good to go. I can service it. [email protected] Hope that helps.!

The two slides/bumpers on the side of the body are tapped from the back toward the front. Make sure the bag compartment lid is open first. Body will come apart that way but most likely isn't for the inexperienced. With 30 yrs. experience dealing almost exclusively with the original Electrolux, I have a legitimate store front business and do service by mail at a reasonable cost if interested. the rubber sile slide off.Please be very careful as the winder is controlled by a metal coil and is under a little of pressue and very sharp.....

The locking mechanism inside the cord winder is defective and needs repaired or replaced. Hope that helps!

Symbols..Question mark means "Put a bag in me", checkered light means : "Change me, I'm dirty"....pre-lit power light means: "You have Powaaa" to the unit and the thermostat light means the motor is too hot if it comes on, (most likely from a hose clog) and needs to cool down before the motor will run again. The settings on the control valve basically have to do with the auto shutoff when the bag needs changed. The lower the valve is turned, the more full the bag will get until it shuts off. It's either a faulty nozzle reset switch, the belt was replaced with too much tension, or the pn motor needs svcd. or replaced.. Hope that helps!

treat this like a stuck jar lid. put it under hot tap water for about 30 seconds then try and get it to release. Make sure your vacuum is unplugged and only let the connection get wet

Several possible problems can cause it not to run. The cord reel often gets lint in side and fails to conduct. Carbon brushes in the motor could have worn out. One of the interlocks that keeps it from working with the bag out can be broken. You need to take this to a local vac shop.

Hi,If this Epic 6000 is shutting off when you either just turn it on or while vacuuming with it...it\'s one of several things...1. Change the bag if you\'ve been picking up a lot of "fine" dust such as drywall dust or carpet freshener powder. That\'s ******* them. 2. Being the machine is over 22 yrs. old, the suction control valve inside either needs to be replaced or just cleaned well. This is the usual cause of the vac shutting off especially if you\'ve tried the dial in several different settings. Hope that helps!

The Discovery II was manufactured in 1986 originally and remade a few years later. The earlier ones did not have any extra filters but can be added like the later ones. There\'s a pre-motor filter that can be added and an after bag filter kit available as well. These help to keep the "fine" dust to a minimum and are helpful to any allergy sufferers. Dismantling the vacuum probably won't help much, and reassembling can be a bear.
To check the intake, remove bag and look into bottom of bag well. It there's a filter there, remove it and check intake at bottom of bag well. Clear if there is.
The afterfilter on a canister is located beneath the air diffuser grid on the top of the machine where the tools can be attached. Remove this cover and there should be a white filter. Yours is probably black, or at least real dirty, if it's never been changed. This also blocks the airflow, reducing suction, and potentially damaging the motor. Extremely dirty filters are an indicator of how much dust is getting into and through the motor. This is usually caused by using generic bags rather than the genuine Electrolux, now Aerus, bags.
It is also an indicator of another internal problem on some other Aerus and pre-Aerus Electrolux vacuums.

you will most likely have to replace the roller brush wth bearings. i just recently had to replace my wifes on her electrolux. i was able to order the parts online at sears parts direct, but there are many places to get them online. you will need the model and serial number. hope this helps.

Let it sit for 30 minutes before trying to use again. Make sure the bag is not full and check to see if filter is clogged.

1. Check the hose for blockages. Do this by dropping a coin, marble, or other small round object down one end, raising hose and letting it fall out the other end. It can usually be cleared by attaching hose to blower, pointing other end outside, and turning on. 2. Check for blockage in the power head elbow. 3. Check the afterfilter. It's locater under the plastic cover on the top of the back of the vacuum. 4. If you have fine dust in your area, make sure the dial on top is set at the smallest dot. This will allow the bag to fill fuller. Regarding fine dust, never use it to vacuum up sheetrock dust. It will go right through the bag and into the motor, quickly ruining it. If none of these problems exist, take it in to have it checked out. Overheating is normally due to a blockage of some sort.
