20 Most Recent Sony VAIO VGN-NR310E/S Laptop Questions & Answers

Yep ~ welcome to the SONY BLUES.

You see SONY has a nasty habit of using up to 5 and more DIFFERENT WiFi BOARDS and they are NOT alike... each requires a SPECIAL Driver unique just to it!

So a SPECIFIC MODEL SONY 123XYX LAPTOP (example) CAN and DOES have many DIFFERENT WiFi cards in it. Only ONE card, but potentially different manufactures!

I don't intend to be redundant, I just need you to fully understand your problem! And sadly it's not JUST the WiFi cards! It may be Audio or even USB Drivers! BOOO SONY!

What's more is SONY does NOT have the courtesy to put all of those drivers on one CD ~ the rats.

I again recommend a FREE download of SPECCY. It SHOULD tell you ALL you need to know about your WiFi and almost ALL other hardware in your System(s)! Heck it even tells you your CPU temperature! See the links below...

Armed with the SPECIFICS, hunt for the FRESHEST drivers you can find for your specific card AND be SURE to MATCH your Operating System too! Is it Windows 7 32-Bit or 64-Bit?

Generally, the reset is a tiny hole with a circle around it on the bottom of the unit. Most are marked with the letters "RST". The hole so small you will need a paperclip or something similar to insert into it.

Note that the microphone is not listed individually in Device Manager because it works through your sound card. Perform the steps in the following sections in order, and then test to determine if your issue is resolved after each section.

NOTE: The microphone should be selected as the recording device in the Volume Control tool(sndvol32.exe).

To verify this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type sndvol32.exe, and then click OK.
  3. Click Properties on the Options menu.
  4. In the Adjust volume for box, click Recording.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In the Microphone box, verify that the Select check box is selected.
All the properties listed on the Playback section of the Volume control are independet of the recording settings. So you could record through the microphone by selecting it on the recording section, and mute it on the playback section. Then, you could record sound, but wouldn't hear it through the speakers while you are recording.

Check Your Hardware loadTOCNode(2, 'moreinformation'); If your microphone has never worked, or if it has stopped working, first check the physical connection of the microphone. Verify that it is firmly plugged into the microphone port instead of the headphone or speaker port. If you are not sure which port is correct, you can check the sound card to see if it is marked (sometimes with a picture of a microphone), you can use a process of elimination, check the documentation that came with your hardware, or contact the hardware manufacturer.

It could be a Operating system issue, or a hardware voltage issue.

I would place my bets on the OS. Simple solution is to update your driver, if that does not work, reinstall your OS
