Okay. I have to explain what happens when you use the speedometer option. While it is off, the GPS use using less cycles per minute to get the location from the satellites and sometime from ground beacons. When in speedo mode, it now needs more processor, memory, graphics speed and the power needed for the receiver. Now the unit is running about twice the cycles per minute to provide an accurate location to judge your speed. How to work around this. Best answer: Dont use this option! Its simple and you dont have to burn your noodle worrying about it. 2. If you must use it, then go into your display and map options and turn the map details and quality down. This will free up memory and CPU speed. 3. Turn tracking off. This will free up memory and CPU speed. 4. Use Garmin's mapping program to only load necessary map locations.This will free up memory space. 5. Be sure you are updated to the latest map data and firmware. 6. This can also be caused by the location of the GPS in the vehicle. On the main screen of most Garmin's, you press and hold on the corner near the icon showing the GPS signal. It will go to a more detailed screen of the satellites and signal strength. Stay in one place in an open area like a parking lot. Let the GPS locate itself first. Most likely you have pulled the LCD flex ribbon cable partially out from its socket on the board. There is a locking latch at the connector that must be GENTLY pried up. Pull out the ribbon cable, reseat it into the connector as far as it will go and press down on the latch across the entire surface until you hear it click. Do this with the power off. To insure that the unit is off, disconnect the battery and reconnect it. Do not push the power button until the flex cable has been reseated and locked down.

Here is the procedure: Nuvi 7xx Series: Turn the Nuvi off. Touch the screen anywhere and keep your finger there while moving the on/off switch to left (don't wait for Garmin logo to come up) and then quickly moving the switch the right (lock position). After a short while, you will reach the calibration screen. Go through the entire procedure of pressing each dot as it appears on the screen until it says "Done". if it came with a cable for your computer plug it in their it should down load an app for updated maps, or look for the Icon for updated maps on your garmin

I'm guessing Garmin. Sounds like an update was attempted. Your only option in my opinion is to turn off and restart update.

I believe you will need the Garmin software called MapSource as well as a Garmin-provided update.

You can delete an old map by connecting the unit up to your PC, using a USB to mini-USB cable. Once the Nuvi shows up as a valid drive letter in windows, double click on the drive and then go to the Garmin directory. Look for the file named gmapprom.img. It should be a file near 1 GB. Right click on the file and select delete. This will delete the map. Warning, once you do this, your GPS will no longer function and you will need to install a new map. Before you delete it, always make a backup of the map file on your PC. Once you are finished, be sure to SAFELY remove the drive in Windows BEFORE you remove the USB cable.

Even though the battery is new, it may need to charge fully before it will operate your unit. If the battery has been on the shelf for a while it may not have enough charge to work properly.

To ease saved favorites I believe you will need to hook to a computer and start garmin express. I have not yet done this but found no other way of deleting old destinations.

Have never had this happen but you might try the update again to see if it was corrupted. If that doesn't correct it, I would,suggest contacting Garmin.

Your Nuvi has to boot past the Garmin logo to the main screen before it can be recognized by your PC. Is the unit dead? The Nuvi 14xx series is well known for its problem with the rear USB port coming loose. This will prevent the unit from receiving power from the external charger and will prevent the battery from being charged. If the unit goes into a boot-up loop, displaying the Garmin logo then shuts down, this is often caused by corrupted files, such as a map or bad firmware update. On my Nuvi 200, after "Where To?", you have to select "Address". My instruction book says: 2.Change the state, country or province if necessary. 3.Touch "Spell City", enter the city/postal code, and touch "Done". Select the city/postal code in the list. (Not all map data provides postal code searching). If you are unsure of the city, touch "Search All". There are further steps, but "Depending on the version of maps loaded on your nuvi, the button names can change and some steps could be ordered differently".

That's normal. The connection is meant for putting new software into the Garmin. It probably charges at the same time, but there's no indication of the state of charge.

Garmin sites are in your favorites from the factory. You can delete them if you want to.
