Magellan Triton 500 Handheld GPS Receiver - Answered Questions & Fixed issues

Good afternoon. I also have 2 promark 3 receivers and at this point nothing could be predicted, one of them does not start, the screen turns on the light, but nothing appears on the screen. Is there someone here who can help? Thank you

Triton 500 are junk. I finally just replaced it with a Garmen. They refer to them as "Red Bricks". Contact www.jungleghost.com he repaired my once but it still had issues. His service is great, and will allow you to re-install the operating system. I just got sick of fixing it as it let me down in the field too many time and it got harder and harder to turn on. Sorry for the bad news.

You need to reset the magellan triton 500, then it will fully come on and stay on. To reset this type of magellan. What you have to do is to take out the battery and reinstall it back in. That should do the job for you, and if that does not solve the problem, then you have to back up the maps on a computer then format the triton then restore the software and maps back on it. Now am assuring you that will do the job.

This screen is called the "Development Screen". It appears when the internal files on the GPS are corrupt. The unit needs to be reflashed because you have corrupted file(s) onthe internal memory of the unit.

The 500 must be connected to VantagePoint to receive maps. The 500 does not accept downloads any other way.

Vantage Point and your computer are expecting to see a internal files the sends the ID of the unit. This file must be missing. The unit needs to be reflashed.

Do a MENU>>VIEW>>SETTINGS and us the down arrow to scroll to the hidden menu name date and time.

Press the PAGE/GOTO button and when you find the odometer screen .. press the enter button and choose the RESET option. This assumes that you have installed the latest version of the firmware.

In the USA you would set: Lat/Long as Deg.min.sec or UTM .. Compass at True North and Datum at WGS84. This assumes that your maps were constructed at datum WGS84 which is current standard.

The on/off power button is a momentary switch. It really never goes bad. Most likely a component has failed on the motherboard. If the unit is in warranty .. return it to Magellan

You can add up to 8GB of SD memory. Your best approach is to add an 8GB SDHC Sandisk (always use Sandisk) Flash Memory card. You can find these cards with TOPO maps installed at the http://www.jungleghost.com website. You can also find the latest instruction manual that describes how to install the card.

You have corrupt software in the internal system. If the unit is in warranty .. return it to Magellan

If the button do not work on the T500 it could be two reasons. One is that the button circuit board is note working.

This also means that if you try to reinstall the firmware you should not be able to do this because you need the buttons to choose the "Connect to PC" choice.

If you have any trails to transfer to your GPS .. you should use the free software named Vantage Point. You can find this software on the Jungle Ghost website at www.jungleghost.com
