I have the same one but the silver model.. On Sunday I opened mine to try to remove the dust on the screen from the inside, How does that happen? While trying to open it and move the computer like board inside to get to the screen to blow the dust off, it accidently broke off the wires to battery to the board. Now only plays when hooked up to the computer.

I also had a sansa clip mp3 player and used to charge it overnight and remove it in the morning to use but after a while it quit qorking and would only work if connected to a computer, the people at sansa said i probably burned out the battery because I would charge it for too long of time which it only needed 2-4 hours for complete charge not overnight which I always did. I also opened that one Sunday for first time to clean the screen and noticed oe wire from battery to board was broke off, that might have been the problem instead of the battery being burned out.

Open your's up and check the wires from the battery to the board maybe one is broken.

When you hook it up to your laptop open up my computer, and is it even being recognized by the laptop? In my computer under devices with removable devices it will say:
Since my computer is old mine say but will be similar for you:
3 1/2 Floppy(A:) (D:) CD-Rom Drive on back of computer- Left USB Port Removable Device (E:)
Right USB Port Removable Device (F:)

If the computer is not recognizing the device it will not charge. Also you'll know the computer is recognizing it because when I hook mine up a screen will pop up asking me what i would like to do with the mp3 player such as open with media player, take no action at all, etc.

You could try to find someone with extremely steady hands and a soldering iron witha very fine tip.
Just make sure they get the polarity right.
Apart from that...not much can be done.

Best Buy Digital Music Store is a bust. You must go to http://www.rhapsody.com and download the latest version of their Rhapsody Software. Once installed and configured, Rhapsody may ask you to install Helix DRM but the process is automated and the setup program handles it for you quite well. Then you are off to the races!!! Good luck Grasshopper.

if you connect it to a computer via a cable (usb usually), then it will show up just like a flash drive.

I had a similar problem with mine, but this may not apply to you. I used my kix on my new macbook, and it worked fine. But when I tried to use it on my family's xp computer afterwards it said that it was writing and media player wouldn't pick it up but the computer itself did. My guess is the problem comes from switching systems between windows and apple. I also never bothered with disconnecting it "properly", which I recommend since it may have also caused the problem. But tell me if this helps.

Do you still have the USB cable? Kindly plug it in the USB port and then an extra drive letter should come out in your computer. It should work like a mass storage device. From there, you can copy and store the music files in the Sounds/Music folder.

Have you tried changing the cable to another one you know works or have you reinstalled your players drivers?

if you haven't done so, try to uninstall the drivers for your device and then reinstall them. With the player plugged into your usb, open up your Device Manager.

for XP, right click your MY Computer on the desktop and select Properties, click the Hardware tab, click on the Device Manager button. Im not a Vista user but on there I believe you open the Properties on My Computer still, then on the left side of the System Information window, click the Device Manager link.
(or hold Windows Key and press the Pause key to open DM)

Once in the DM, locate your player. Usually under the Universal Serial Bus Controllers. It may be named Mass Storage Device or something else. If you cant recognize it in the list, unplug it an plug back in while looking at all the USB deviced currently installed.

If you see no changes at all as you plug/unplug your player then you may have another problem.

As this is a discontinued product, you might have trouble finding support for it.  Nevertheless, I did some research, and I think the driver can be found under the following page:

Good luck!

1 With your stereo headphones turned off, press and hold for four seconds. The blue and red LEDs blink alternately. 2 On your phone or MP3 player, selectINSIGNIA NS-CAHBTOE01 from the list of discovered devices, then enter the password 0000 (four zeros) (if required) to pair your headphones
