Restore my dell inspiron to original factory settings

If you have the Dell Recovery CD for your computer then boot up with this CD and follow the instruction to install the original Windows OS.If you do not have the Recovery CD then you need to get it from Dell. You can download the Recovery CD and device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on thislink to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

Dell inspiron 531s will not power on. It worked just fine and after I moved to a different home, it does not power on at all. I have tried different electrical outlets

Assuming you have tested those outlets with another electrical device (such as a lamp) and they are getting power, the problem might be the power cord, or static inside the computer. Try this:1. Remove the power cord completely from the computer.2. Press and hold down the power switch for 10-20 seconds. This drains any residual static in the circuitry.3. Re-attach the power cord. Make sure it is seated firmly on the end that attaches to the back of the computer.4. Plug it into a known good outlet and try to power on.If that does not work, try replacing the power cord with a known good one. If it still doesn't power up, the problem could be either the power on button, or the power supply itself. Either could have been damaged during your move. You could open the computer case and see if anything appear loose, or any wires are obviously detached. Power supply modules do ocassionally go bad on computers. They are not that expensive to buy, and not that hard to replace, though it might be a challenge for a novice. Before you buy and/or replace the power module, be sure to have the machine tested at a local store (Radio Shack, Best Buy, Office Depot, etc) to make sure that is really the problem. Many stores will perform a power supply test for a nominal fee.

What's your problem?tower fan is always

Your computer's Processor/CPU fan is set to run faster when it is hot and slower when it is cool. That is why it get's quiet and loud. A clean may reduce the noise, by removing the dust from the computer system the fans will be able to operate more efficiently and effectively meaning that they won't have to spin as fast.Install fans in your chassis to provide your computer system with freash air, an exhaust fan is also an idea to push warm air out of the system. Generally the larger the fan the quieter it will be, as a large fan can spin at a slower rate to provide the same airflow of a smaller unit.Remember that it is that fan over the CPU heatsink that is keeping your computer alive. Overtime they can wear, replacing the fan is an option.Take care!damnor01

No power when I push the power button.

This may be that either your power button is stuck or dirty or broken worn or your power supply unit went bad. You can replace these rather cheap these days. I get them at Amazon.com just remove the cover and get the same one as you have replace and you are on your way again. I do not believe it is the mother board. If you are not sure how to do this take it in and have it tested it is cheaper than a new computer to get it done correctly then spend money on this trying to isolate the issue. This is usually a sign of a bad power supply unit, thanks for using FixYa! John

SYSTEM TRIES TO COME ON

It sounds like it could be a problem with overheating, which is causing the machine to turn itself off. Try opening the side cover, and carefully cleaning the motherboard and especially the CPU fan - which is the large fan probably on top of a silver box with loads of fins on it. Carefully remove the dust, and see if this clears up the problem. It may be worth removing and refitting the memory whilst the computer is open, to reduce the problems of bad connections between the cards.

If it doesn't fix it, then reply here with any error messages that pop up on the screen.

Inspiron 531s beeps twice pause then again,

That is a memory parity error. You either put memory in that is not compatible with the computer or you added a stick of memory that is not compatible with that which is already in the computer.

Inspiron 531s upon starting beeps twice and pauses

Assuming that you hear 2 short beeps and a pause before you hear 2 more beeps, your computer can not detect any memory during the power on self test. Turn off everything and unplug all of the cables. Then open the computer and carefully remove all of the memory in the machine. (Press down on the plastic latches that hold the modules in place then pull the memory stick away from the motherboard.) Replace one module and then try to reboot the computer. If this works, try the other stick(s). Try the modules in different slots until you know if any of the modules and slots work.

Replace with new memory if possible. The 531 can take 512 MB or 1 GB memory with the following specs: 667-MHz or 800-MHz DDR2 SDRAM.

If the none of the memory works in any slots, try them in another computer if possible. If the memory works in another system, then the motherboard needs to be replaced.

I hope this helps.
