How Do I Increase My Speed

there are a few ways to increase the system performance, here's some:1: remove any programs you don't use, this reduces the disk access time increasing performance2:remove any toolbars or PuPs (Potentially Unwanted Programs) as these also take up disk space3: Defragment your hard disk, think of the data stored on the disk as a messy room, the defrag tool included with yourOS will clean up and organize this mess to make the system more efficient and disk access will be significantly reduced4:Clean up the disk, there is a nifty little tool included with your OS called disk cleanup, this will remove temporary and unused files and gets rid of things that you and the system no longer need and frees disk space, decreasing the disk access and seek timings will shortenand the big one...5: Buy an SSD, this is a super fast disk that originates from the usb pendrive, it's faster, more energy efficient, and can store data without the need to defragment, this is an expensive way to speed up your PC, but by golly is iit worth it!!

No lights on cd/dvd

the part you are missing is going into your computer's bios to change the boot sequence to CD/DVD first so that it would read the dvd. The current setting is probably network since you are seeing the PXE failure

What keys do i use

Hi michieday368...

To set you computer back to factory fresh settings you will need to format the hard drive and re-install the operating system and the drivers.
You will need to have the CD's that either you made when you got your computer or if you were lucky you got the CD's that the factory furnished with the computer at the time you bought it.
If you do not have the CD/DVD's that came with your machine then you will need to go to the Manufacturer's website and buy the Restore CD's or DVD's.
If the machine is too old, your only option is to check on ebay...
You may get lucky, and someone or maybe a company will have you CD's or DVD's available.

1.Format the hard drive:
You do this by double left clicking on "My Computer",then double left click the main drive (normally C drive).
When the window pops open, you will choose "Format"
Keep in mind that once you format your hard drive you will loose all your files, programs, pictures, etc that you installed since the computer was new. So make your back up on a portable hard drive, thumb drive, etc.
Please take time to rate me

Hi There and Welcome to FixYa!

If your CD/DVD drive is not reading any discs, then we have to determine if it's a software problem or not. Here are the steps :
  • Make sure that your computer is turned on and there's no media inside the cd/dvd drive.
  • Close all running programs except for a web browser.
  • Click on this LINK and choose "Run Now".
  • It will download the Microsoft optical drive fix tool into your computer - wait until the download completes.
  • Run the application and restart your computer afterwards.
  • Try 2 to 3 known good media in your CD/DVD drive.
After completing the above steps and the problem is still evident, then I would recommend for optical drive replacement. For more helpful information about this product and on how to contact their helpdesk phone support, please visit the below link :

Hi Thanks for your question
What i would recommend to do is in order to return your system to working state is to use System Restore tool. To use it please follow this.
1. When starting System press F8 key few times till you are shown some options. 2. One of the options should be Safe Mode please choose it and press enter 3. Once safe mode is loaded you will be asked if you want to use system recovery or just use safe mode 4. Click no to run System Restore 5. Once system restore is started from calendar showed choose the system restore point when system was working correctly 5. Press next and then next again 6. In few minutes your system should restart and work as normal
Good luck an please let us know if this was helpful

Were do i put an sd adapter

depends.. what kind of adapter? if its a USB adapter you plug it into the usb port on your computer (rectangle plug most have atleast 1 in the front now) and the card goes into the adapter. now if your talking a sd card reader they have usb ones which above would apply. if it is internal it is usually either 3 1/2 inch or 5 1/4 inch and would go into the respective empty space in the face of your computer then plug into the motherboard on a set of USB pins. if your not sure find a local computer repair shop and consult them. they can help better with physically seeing your computer and what your trying to do

Computer won't boot up.

If you don't hear anything on bootup then it is most likely the power supply and you can purchase one from your local Best Buy Comp USA type store. It is very easy to replace if you have repair/troubleshooting skills. I can elaborate if you want to give it a try but it sounds like the power supply that is bad.

Hope this helps,

Hard Drive Install gone bad!

Unplug the slaved hard drive.

Restart the computer. If you get the same results.

Pull out the cmos battery on the motherboard. Most look like shiny nickles, be carefull not to damage the board. Make sure you unplug the computer first and let it sit a minute or two afterwards before putting it back.

That will set the bios back to defaults and you should be able to get the computer up and running from there.

As far as slaving that drive to be used as extra storage, you might want to consider an external enclousure instead.

Best of luck.

Machine won't boot to win xp

You have two choices:
1) Insert your e-machine system disk and boot from it. It should ask you if you want to install Windows or repair it. Choose R for repair. Then when you get the black screen with white writing, choose your windows installation (usually #1) and then press enter when prompted for a password. When you get the c: prompt, type chkdsk /r
This might fix it.
If not, then try the process again and don't choose "r" but continue through the screen when it asks you to accept the Microsoft agreement by pressing F8. Then on the next screen choose to repair the existing version of Windows. It will reinstall the system files and may actually fix your problem.

Guessing, but it sounds like your hard drive has been damaged. You may need a new drive, or at least repairs. If you have a "rescue disk", give that a try.
