Goodman CKL24AR24 Air Conditioner - Page 2 - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
I'm trying to figure out
Hello my name is Heath it will be my pleasure to assist you. The answer to your question is 3.5 tons. The 42 represents 42,000 btu and you divide that by 12,000 wich is equal to one ton of cooling and you get 3.5 tons.

My a\c unit not cooling but the unit is running
check to see if the fresh air vent is blocked. If the unit is outside make sure nothing is blocking the air flow ie. grass, weeds, etc.If these are clear, you probably need some "freon"/ coolant installed.

Compressor fan motor runs backwards
Most likely a bad motor or bad capacitor. I would check the capacitor first as this is probably a $20 fix. The fact that it runs in the correct direction but at a reduced speed really leans hard to the capacitor.
Good Luck and hope this resolves things for you. Let me know.

Fan motor direction?
As long as your replace the motor with an identical replacement, there is no need to know which way it turns. It only mounts in the cabinet one way. But since you're asking, if you're looking at the unit from the front (the controls), it turns clockwise.

Contacter
The contact assy is a tri-stated device. It has an internal solenoid that is energized when the thermostat sends proper voltage to it. It should have 5 wires going to it and is typically in a rectangular shape. there are 2 wires going in/ 2 wire going out and 1 for the solenoid. It usually sits at the back of the compressor housing in a recessed area, it could also have a capacitor (looks like a big "D" cell battery) sitting next to it. It usually has a panel to protect if from the elements, its a very simple remove and replace. if you are going to replace it yourself MAKE SURE TO TURN OFF THE POWER TO THE COMPRESSOR !!!!! the fuse box next to the compressor, open it and flip or pull out the breaker. You might have Ants that have attached themselves to the contact (a very common problem) you can clean them off and spray the contact will bug repellent. It might fix it, but chances are you will have to replace the contact. After install, spray it with bug repellent to cut down on the re-occurring.It might not be the contactor. It may the the start capacitor for the compressor. To check the capacitor: Turn the breaker on and with a screw driver push down the contactor to cause it to engage. If the compressor turns on, then its the contactor, if not the chances are its the capacitor....also a very easy fix. Good Luck

Heat pump 2.5 tons, 90
With such limited information, if everthing else is operating normally then the system has the wrong piston installed in the air handler. A smaller piston needs to be installed.

I have 2.5 Goodman heat
The piston is too large. Have a reputable heating and air technician install the proper size piston and this will correct the problem. Cost should be 150.00.

2 ton condensing unit w/ 3 ton evap 100 suction
Hi,
The orifice or the expansion valve are for a three ton unit and you only have a 2ton...so too much gas is going through causing low discharge and high suction... install correct orifice or TXV and you'll be okay...

I'm checking a new 24 volt contactor and reading 8.3 ohms, sounds like yours is shorted. If you suspect the contactor, change it out they are not expensive and if you still have the problem you'll know that's not it

Amana Air Contioner, Which direction
Hello, you want the condenser fan moving the air up so it gets rid of the heat that the refrigerant has absorbed at the evaporator, whenthe ac is running you should feel warm air coming out the top of it.

We have a Goodman CKL
Yes there is a way. First You need to see if the outdoor unit has a time delay on it.It would be connected to the contactor and the low voltage wires. If there is not one then there is a problem with your thermostat. If you have the thermostat manual, check to see if there is way to change from the 3 minutes to none. I hope this helps you.

Compressor fan motor does not
you will need to see if you are receiving you voltage to the contactor, if not then there should be a breaker or fuse next to your unit outside. the fan should engage, if the contactor is pulled in then check for voltage to the fan, it should be a black and white wire on t1 and t3, if the voltage is there then the 5mfd capacitor is bad(check with meter, if you have a meter that does that) or the fan motor is bad. on the fan motor there is a diagram with the HP,RPM,Phase, and voltage. you can either get one locally or search eBay for one. Just make sure you get a capacitor with the new motor that is rated the same, most are 5mfd but some are 7.5mfd. Hope this helps Tim
