I'm sorry to say that Sony does not make it easy to replace the hard drives in their laptops. you should probably consider getting it done professionally.
that being said if you are willing to chance it there are some good videos that can walk you through it:
Best of luck.

For a New Hard Disk Recovery with the Sony Recovery DVD's, do a complete restore, and leave the SKIP button selected on the last screen when asked if you want to recover the C: Drive.

Sony are a bit wierd the way they work this step.

Try that anyway and failing this try entering the bios at boot up and making sure your time and date are right and try again.

The first issue sounds more like a microphone volume problem to me. In the control panel you should see an option to fix this under sounds, select your microphone and adjust the volume.
The second problem you might be able to fix it by looking for a white square icon(resembles the touchpad) on the taskbar, which is located next to the clock.

ONE: The 'tech' should have told you that the air intake port, and Fan/Heatsink assembly, needs to be clean inside that laptop.

TWO: The 'tech' should have recommended a laptop cooler, if it is known that the fan is too small in cooling capacity.

THREE: The laptop CANNOT be placed directly on a carpet floor, it must be on a hard flat surface. (Which means should not be placed on your lap)

Reinstall the Memory Card Driver to resolve the issue.

Purchase either a USB or a PCMCIA wireless-adapter, install it, connect it, and use it, after "disabling" the built-in wireless-adapter.

Or, if your computer is still under "warranty", exercise the warranty to get SONY to fix it.
