A SIM card is a little chip, size of a thumb nail, used to identify yourself as a valid customer of a phone network. If you do not have one, you need to buy from a phone service provider first, your mobile does not allow you to make phone calls without one.
The SIM card must be installed in your phone, for the A767 you have to open the lid on the back, remove the battery and slide it into a slot in the upper left corner of the battery compartment. The contacts of the SIM should face down, the little triangular clipped off corner should be on the right, bottom side when you put it inside.
If you purchased a SIM before already, and installed it properly, it may got loose in its little hatch, e.g. by rough handling. Make sure the SIM card is properly in place (proper orientation and still all way in its slot).
The SIM card may also got dirty or liquid may have entered the phone case. In this case, remove the SIM, carefully clean it and the inside of your phone, reinstall and retry.

If you want to unlock it to use with another carrier, just call at&t @ 1-800-331-0500and have your esn/imei number ready (found under the battery) and tell them you need a FREE unlock code & they should give it to you as well as the instructions.

When i try to delete
Most likely, the default code is 0000, or 1234, or the last 4 digits of your phone number.
Try this to reset your password. Make sure this does not delete your contacts.
From the standyby screen, press Menu.
select Settings.
select Reset Settings.
Press all.
Enter new password.

A cleaning might help but cannot be confirmed until it is done. If not take a consensus with a service dealer to confirm/estimate , check with error codes.
My phone dropped in water
turn the phone off, take out the battery - if you have one of those airtight bags - half fill it with uncooked rice and seal the phone in the bag and leave overnight.
Alternatively use a hairdryer on the phone for about 30 mins but don't put it so close that if overheats the phone....gently does it.
