The answers above will not work.
What you have to do is this:
Once the installation is over you will be asked to restart the computer, dont do it, cancell the operation (if you restart the computer windows will erase most of the folders of the game).
Once you have cancelled this, copy the crack game where you installed the game.
Now, change the name of the folder where you installed the game, (any name is ok, just change it).
Then, open the game, close it, and then open it again, it should work perfectly after that :)

ok, I have Win 7, but should be the same. if you have a shortcut icon for the game on the desktop, do this. STEP 1- right click on the icon, Step 2- select 'properties', STEP 3- select 'open file location' this will open the folder where the exe file is and it will be highlighted. STEP 4- right click on it and click on 'properties' STEP 5- click the 'compatibility' tab across the top of the box. STEP 6- tick the box that says 'run as' and choose XP from the drop down options. STEP 7- click 'apply' (or OK)
close all the boxes, and try to launch the game.
this should work. if you already know where the exe file is located, find it and go from STEP 4.

There appears to be a workaround to get it to work. Right click on the desktop and select Personalize. Select the Windows Classic theme. Leave the window open. Right click on the desktop and select Screen Resolution. Leave the window open. Now try starting American Conquest. This seems to work on the four systems that I've tried it on.

You may need to reinstall the video adapter drivers.

First check video settings on computer and ensure they are set to max colors and resolution possible. You find the setting in control panel, under Display in XP and Personalize in Vista and 7.

Find details about the video adapter you are using, then go to manufacturer website (or to computer manufacturer website) and download updated drivers.

i think the fix for this would be to (a) find a new download of the game because this one could be faulty or (b) buy the game so that you don't have to crack it. also be careful of exe files. they aren't all demons whose sole purpose is to ruin your virtual life but some of them are.

Windows 7 Aero apparently interferes with the graphics of the game. Download the fix which has been made by the fine people at http://cossacksworld.ucoz.co.uk/.
