SIMM card could have dirty contacts, pull out the card and clean the contacts with a pencil eraser used gently and a clean cloth, reinstall. SIMM card could also be from a different carrier than the phone was originally designed for (phone is locked).

It could be that the phone is delayed in ringing. Try placing a test call and see how many times it rings in the phone you are calling from before it rings on the phone. It probably has something to do with the most recent automatic software update. You might try turning the volume down and then back up while the feature is in use. For example, when I make or receive a call, I touch the Speakerphone icon and then immediately turn the volume down one level and then back up. The speaker/microphone works normally then. It will be better when Motorola issues a new software update that fixes the problem, but, as workarounds go, it's not too terribly difficult to do.
