S.A.E grade 10w-30 multi grade oil its recommended from 60F and up. For temp lower than 60F use the 20W oil if its a new Gen(first operation). replace oil after 20Hr. these carburetors are not adjustable any longer. my guess is that the carb my look perfectly clean but some of the jetting may not be perfect. When it's cold, it surges, when it's warm and under a load it runs OK If its under warranty, the dealer doesn't want to spend the $$ to replace the carb.

i have the same problem with a new one ,take a peace of paper and cover the battery cover air inlet when it's running ,if your problem stops-it's the seal around the cover,a honda rep let the cat out of the bag,---jk

Main jet on carb is clogged. Starts when you prime but then will shut off. Remove and disassemble carb taking pains to thoroughly clean the main jet area with cleaner.
