you need the blade in the unit in order to mix the pie crust. but do not over mix. its best to do it in short pulse bursts. otherwise the crust will come out resembling fluffy playdough and will not holdtogether during baking

It locks pretty tight. I use the heel of my hand to tap the handle back the opposite way as when you lock it on and this unlocks the bowl.

DYI fix job on mine. DIsassembles base and switch assembly. Added a rectangular piece of plastic just above litlle balck trigger switch. Taped switch casing's side (not my plastic piece) so that my plastic piece would not fallout. Re-assembled. Voil?. Problem was that travel length of whole trigger mechanism was a bit too short to trigger the switch. With the added plastic piece, travel was extended a little to make the whole thing work, but not so much so that it would always unsafely stay ON when plugged. Tried various other gluing options on other pieces before that, but nothing would hold.

Should be a push down and turn counter clockwise to release.

Several other people complaining of the same, no solutions I have found.
